Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Rodriguez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always wanted to start my own business since I was a child. My passion for baking began when I was young, but I did not start baking until I was in middle school. One day, I baked flan and my mother took the leftovers to her job. Her friends were so taken with it that they began ordering from me on a regular basis. It eventually stopped, but I continued to make desserts on occasion. I came up with the idea to turn my passion for baking into a business when I was 17 years old in high school. I spent a year brainstrorming business names, menus, packaging, and everything else that comes with starting a business. In 2018, I officially launched my business, which is now known as Oh my Flan LLC. Eventually, I started to meet new people and attend markets around the city which has helped my business grow into what it is today. I have every single one of my customers to thank for that!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business comes with its own set of obstacles and it is never a smooth road just like anything in life. What I have learned over the past three years is that discipline is key. You won’t always be motivated to do what you have to for your business, but with discipline, you will get to where you want to. There will be many mistakes made along the road but they are only mistakes if you don’t learn from them and get back up stronger. To get myself through the rough days, I say two things, 1. Remember why you started and 2. Success is a series of small wins.
As you know, we’re big fans of Oh My Flan LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Oh My Flan serves a wide range of desserts, including Flan, Tres Leche, Arroz con Leche, milkshakes, cupcakes, and more. I attend many markets in Miami, which has aided in the growth of my business and the addition of new clients. Some of my desserts have also been sold in two food trucks and two restaurants. I cater to a variety of events, including weddings, baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries, and more. In addition to catering events, I also offer dessert stations, where I will design the table according to your preferences. I am most proud of not giving up on myself or allowing others to question me because the only person who can prevent me from achieving my goals is myself.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
My favorite thing about our city is how supportive people are even if they just met you. They will talk about your products to their friends and family and help you to get your name out there. There are those who may not know you personally but when it comes to your business, they have your back and eventually become one of your friends. As a Miamian, I think we can all agree that the least favorite part about our city is definitely the traffic.
