Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Riano.
Hi Karen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am humbled by the opportunity to share more about my story and beginnings. I was born and raised in Bucaramanga, Colombia where the only thing I saw growing up was my father working hard. He taught me how important discipline, perseverance, and hard work are. Ever since I was 16, I wanted to live in Miami but I wanted to finish my business and marketing master degree before leaving Colombia. I also worked for an import company I while completing my education. I always felt like something was missing so at age 24, as soon as I finished my studies, I decided to take the risk and make the move. This is where the challenge began. It was hard at the beginning but I learned one of the most important lessons of my life. That is that everything takes time and since then I always keep that in mind. I started a roses company but I gave up after it didn’t go well. I the took a look at myself in the mirror and realized I always wanted to do real estate, which is what my father did while I was growing up in Bucaramanga. My biggest dream was to be a business woman and little by little I am achieving that goal. I still have a long way to go but I am proud of myself all of my achievements this far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obstacles
I wouldn’t say It was easy or smooth I had a lot of up and downs but finally I understood that’s what life is, is never going to go one way you are always going trough hard moments but those moments make you who you are, I wouldn’t change anything of what I have lived, I learned so much from those moments that I can say I feel happy and stronger.
Challenge
I felt nobody believed in me, I don’t know if it was my perspective but I felt very lonely at that time.
To have classes every day for three years. It takes a lot of time.
The language even if you are in Miami where everyone speaks Spanish, you need English to grow.
Learn how to live with strangers.
Learn to believe in me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Real estate advisor
I help people to find their dream homes or to invest wisely to make their dreams come true. I specialize in sales, I offer them continuous support, I help them organize activities and diversify their investments, I don’t mind working every day at any time I am always available for all the people that trust in my work. I think the only reason for this is because I love what I do, I do.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I learned to believe in myself, to be committed, and not give up. To be flexible, to have patience, to communicate better, to understand people. I have my bad days and like all of us, I am still learning and still in the process of becoming better, I think that’s the key to never stop wanting to be better and understanding that all good things in life take time, effort, discipline, love, and hard work.
