Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Martinez.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Living in Miami, societal beauty standards have always been tough on women. I grew up with the idea that I had to look good at all times. All throughout high school, I was obsessed with makeup. It was a hobby that I thought I would eventually turn into my career. However, once I turned about 20 years old, my skin started breaking out like a teenager. I had never experienced such low confidence and shame. I had gone to every dermatologist, every esthetician. I took every medication, every topical cream – but nothing worked. Finally, I was left with “We’ve done all we could do for you. Let us know when you’d like to try these medications again”. I took matters into my own hands and decided to get licensed in skincare at Aveda. Throughout the course, I learned all I had to know about ingredients, chemicals and the science of skin. Within a few months, my face was cleared and I knew that I was meant to help other people heal their skin too. I spent years looking in the mirror saying horrible things to myself that were never true. What was once my biggest insecurity is now my biggest blessing and testimony. My heart feels for every person I meet who struggles with their confidence due to their skin. I spent too many years hiding underneath my makeup. I didn’t know then what God was preparing me for but I am so grateful to have gone through what I did and be able to TRULY connect with every single person that walks through my doors. My goal is to help as many people as I can love the skin they’re in and embrace what God has made. I want to remind people that we are all human – we all break out and no one looks perfect 24/7. Social media and filters aren’t reality so it’s about time we focus on having healthy skin vs perfect skin (because quite frankly, it doesn’t exist!).
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Everything worth having comes with its challenges. I dropped out of college to pursue this full-time with zero business background, minimal support and a very sad bank account. I never worked somewhere to gain experience, I went straight into going solo… I was the definition of “winging it”. I remember the first few months sitting in my treatment room wondering if my schedule would ever be filled. But by the grace of God, I have been able to put in the time, energy and love to build something authentic and beautiful.
