Today we’d like to introduce you to Deshon Junior.
Hi Deshon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Me being into videography came at a young age when I was in third grade. When my elementary school introduced its video production class. That’s when my mind opened up to a world of Cameras, Sound, lighting, and all those technical aspects. Since that, I knew that’s what I wanted to do as a career. Since then, I’ve made it my forefront to join my church’s media team and become one of the best camera operator there. Which I did succeed at and have done for about seven years now, and still going. People saw the passion my camera work had behind it, leading to people telling me I should start my own Video Production business. Which I did in my junior year of high school; and it’s currently going great. I get consistent clients with great feedback on their finished products. As of now, I’m a senior graduating from South Tech High school and going to Lynn University. Here I’m going to continue expanding my knowledge in the art of Cinematography. And continue to expand the business to other parts of South Florida offering my wonderful passion-filled services. I also help out buddies of mine on their shoots, which comes into me also being a freelance Filmmaker and Cinematographer. This I ultimately give all my thanks to God, My mentors, Close Friends, and My church for pushing me to this level.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the main part, it has been a very smooth ride. But there were still obstacles, such as me having to manage school, the video business, and as well as live production at the church I’m employed at. These caused time struggles for me, having to get projects done in time, splitting workflow hours between like four different projects at once; as well as school work on the side. But so far, I’ve been pushing through, still hitting or beating deadlines, with high-quality work and very pleased customers, and of course good grades.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
With my business, we offer video needs for weddings, music videos, Documentaries, professional vlogs, short films, etc. Pretty much whatever you need involving video, I will create a specific plan specified to what you need and want. All this comes at affordable rates with the highest quality I offer no matter what type of project it is. Then I’m also a freelancer where I can do a specific role on a job where extra help is needed. So forth as being a Cinematographer, DP (Director of Photography), Camera OP (Operator), or Director.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see this industry going more High tech. As in using more robots to fill complicated shots. I could also feel a big raise in independent filmmaking. With all these small indie creatives putting out their ideas in the world, it’s just beautiful. As well as changing the game with the extreme creative edits such as we see in a lot of music videos today from young rising artists. I don’t ever see this line of work dying out, as long as there are us indie creatives thinking of new ideas to excel in the industry and keep up with technology as it continues to grow.
