Today we’d like to introduce you to Ailen Lucero.
Hi Ailen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I always wanted to have a career where I can help people. After much thought, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology. After working with children with special needs for several years, I realized that many children engaged in negative behaviors due to their inability to communicate, therefore, pursuing a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
After working with children and adults with various disabilities, I realized there is a large need for therapy services in Kendall and decided to open Bilingual Therapies of South Florida (BTSFL). While helping children with their speech and language difficulties, I learned the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork and decided to expand BTSFL and incorporate more therapies such as Occupational therapy and behavior therapy to help with all of your child’s needs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finishing a full-time master’s degree while working was a challenge itself. However, I would say the biggest challenge has been learning how to be a business owner. Taking the time to learn all the things that weren’t taught in school. Most importantly failing and not giving up on my dream. At the end of the day, dreams don’t work unless you do.
