Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Weill.
Hi Sophie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born/raised in Miami and am half Venezuelan, half Cuban. Ever since I can remember, I have been an extremely curious person and have always asked a lot of questions. I’ve always wondered why we do things certain ways (aka had a hard time following rules at school lol) and have always had a hard time conforming to traditional paths. I think that part of that innate trait is what led me to start my own company where we could make the rules up as we went in a way that made sense to me, that seemed fair and in alignment/integrity. In 2018, I launched my PR agency, Nude Nation Relations, that represents founders and thought leaders whose mission is bigger than the product/service/expertise they are selling and our role is to get their message as far and wide as possible. It’s a big job and my favorite part about it is connecting with these founders on their TRUTH, being able to extract their message and share it with the world in a way that will resonate. My love of doing that led me to also launch my podcast in 2019 called Active Ingredient, where I interview founders, experts, and thought leaders on their journey of living life in alignment and how they come ALIVE. Most recently, I am also now a yoga instructor based in Miami and in NY! I think with everything I do, the through-line is my deep desire to help people come home to themselves and to be seen and heard.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road but I wouldn’t change one thing. I had no idea what I wanted to be or do when I graduated from college. The stress of not knowing led to me having severe anxiety which is actually what led me on my yoga path. I moved to NY after I graduated without a job or a clue and just interviewed anywhere I was remotely interested in. I landed at a PR agency in NY in the hospitality division and it was such a great experience/PR bootcamp and after that, I went off to work at a few other agencies before starting my own. I remember when I decided to go out on my own, I just had that moment of thinking, “if not now, when”? I didn’t have kids, I didn’t have any responsibilities really except for paying rent so that’s what my goal was at first. I went from making enough to just cover rent (and one month was cutting it really close not gonna lie, lol) to slowly building my agency in a thoughtful and intentional way. Throughout the journey, I was surrounded by so many incredible and inspiring people across so many industries that I believed were living in full alignment and I felt like I hadn’t found what my purpose was yet. Sometimes I felt like I was getting closer and sometimes I felt so far off but that struggle is what led me to launch my podcast, Active Ingredient, where I literally interviewed people on how they figured out what their purpose/mission was because I wanted to figure out mine so badly. The podcast is what has led me on a personal growth journey that has been the most fulfilling thing in my life and what led me to become a yoga instructor. It’s like every struggle is really nudging you in the direction you’re supposed to go in. It’s redirecting you so to resist it or be frustrated by the struggle is not really useful which I know is easier said than done but all in all, I would say I am actually grateful for every struggle even the really dark ones because if you pay attention and connect with yourself, those struggles are what get you on the path you’re meant to be on.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nude Nation is a public relations agency that represents mission-driven founders/thought leaders/authors whose message is bigger than the product/service/expertise they are selling. They are on a mission for the betterment of humanity and our job is to get their message out in the world as loudly as possible. We know the magnitude of the role that media plays in all of our lives so we have made it our mission at Nude Nation to exclusively work on bringing meaningful brands and transparent conversations to the forefront and ultimately inject positive and productive narratives into the media. We are known for getting founders/thought leaders/experts placed on top-tier national media, podcasts and stages. I’m honestly most proud of our team and the level of growth and expertise I get to witness on a daily basis and our ability to really SEE and HEAR our clients and share what we see and hear in an intentional and strategic way.
My podcast, Active Ingredient’s, mission is to help our audience come alive and come home to themselves and know the truth of who they are. We provide our audience with insightful conversations, practical guides/steps and prompts to ask themselves to uncover their own light, or what we call their Active Ingredient, to live a life of peace, truth and full alignment.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Wow, so many people I don’t even know where to begin. First and foremost, my family who has always supported me and are the first ones to listen to my podcast and call me with feedback, lol. Even though they’ve never had to help me financially since I launched my own company, it is a true privilege knowing that I have a safety net with them literally and figuratively no matter what which gives me the freedom to take more risks. I know that not everyone is in that position and I am extremely grateful every day. All my past bosses who taught me SO much about work ethic, the power of networking, and showing me by example what it’s like to do something new and uncomfortable every day. I’m extremely indebted to my first ever clients who trusted me with their brands, who took a shot on me and who helped me get my start. To every client, I’ve worked with since. MY TEAM, specifically Megan Maguire who is my right-hand lady and has totally and entirely helped me build both Nude Nation and Active Ingredient. Last and certainly not least, my partner who has been my #1 cheerleader since our college days who has believed in me and my ability to do anything I put my mind to and has been there by my side through it all – from working at a hibachi restaurant to starting a nail business, to working at Swatch, to launching an agency, becoming a yoga teacher and everything in between. He is the person in my life that makes me believe with full certainty that anything is possible.
