Meet Dana Ramos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Ramos.

Hi Dana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi I’m Dana the brain behind How I Picnic. I’m someone who’s always been a hopeless romantic I’d say. The kind that lights candles every night and always has fresh flowers at her place, yup that’s me. For me it’s important to make people around me feel loved and appreciated. The way I like to show that is what you’d call “cliche” and that’s okay with me because honestly you need some of that in your life. I’m that friend who’d give you flowers just because. I’m that partner who’d pick up a bright yellow smiley face balloon while going grocery shopping just to distract you from a stressed day at work. It makes me feel good knowing I put a smile on their faces.

For last year’s Valentine’s Day I wanted to do something special for my now fiancé Torix and thought of a picnic at the beach being the island girl that I am. After that day something on my mind was telling me to get out of my comfort zone and kept telling myself why not share with everybody how I picnic? And that’s where the name comes from. This project is so people can experience exactly how I would picnic and enjoy it as much as I did. We made a few trips to the beach to set up and take a few photos. By then I was still at my old job and we were always rushing to the beach trying to make it before the sunset. Now we both laugh every time we have the honor to do a picnic and how incredible this business grew after that romantic date at the beach.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles I had at the beginning was where to start? I saw this quote by Tina Fey that said “say YES and you’ll figure it out afterwards.” Never did I think I’d still be going strong with this “idea” I had. We always have to stay positive and learn how to use our talent. “Listen to the inner light; it will guide you.” – Sri Chinmoy

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Since a little girl I was always involved in art from painting and drawing to going to art school in Dominican Republic (my hometown) and having a graphic design degree. When creating my picnics I always combine every knowledge of art I have and put a little more to top it off. I love how much of myself goes into each picnic and how each of my clients thank me to have been part of their special moments.

My business is about curating unique picnics/events, styled shoots, charcuterie boards and movie nights. My specialization is definitely picnics and that’s what I’m mostly known for. I can say I am very proud of how far I’ve come with How I Picnic and being able to create art on each charcuterie board, each picnic and all the incredible content creation. I am happy when my clients get to create memorable experiences with what I put my whole heart into. With How I Picnic you get a whole different vibe not just the typical, the service will always be 1A. Always thinking on what I would have wanted if it was me attending to that event just like that day at the beach on Valentine’s Day. There’s variety in our picnics for every occasion, if you’re on the more privacy kind of side we’ve also got you covered with our tent package. Each event adapts to what our clients desire.
