Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Roth.
Hi Jess, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
@dough_licious began in 2015 as a hobby during my Sophomore year studying at Duke University. I collaborated with a friend of mine, and the two of us alternated posting aesthetically pleasing pictures of food on the account daily after deciding what looked best. During the Fall of 2016, we each studied abroad for the semester (I went to Madrid and my friend went to Copenhagen), where we continued to post each day, expanding the scope of images to include pictures of food from the different countries we traveled to. My friend decided she did not want to continue working on the account, so I continued to run it on my own. Though most posts were from my own pictures, I encouraged my users and friends to send me images of their aesthetic dishes to further grow my foodie network and to connect people through their love of food. Now seven years later, @dough_licious has grown to have over 36,900 followers. I am based in Miami, but I have also had opportunities to experience restaurants in different cities including Austin, Fort Lauderdale, New York City, Park City, and San Diego. The growth of my account has allowed me to experience opportunities at many different restaurants, as well as promote some of my favorite brands and companies to my followers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took me about six years of posting on the account nearly every single day to begin to witness my hard work pay off as my account grew from approximately 2,000 followers to currently 36,900 followers. I was extremely passionate about the account from day one, and after being consistent for so long, it feels incredibly rewarding to experience the benefits and feel the enthusiasm for my posts!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My food Instagram account has given me the opportunity to experience various culinary experiences and interact with different professionals in the food industry. Having the ability to curate my own content on Instagram, whether it be in the form of photos, videos, reels, or stories, is invigorating to me. The engagement I see from my followers is extremely exciting and rewarding, and I am honored to have the opportunity to impact and influence so many people!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I plan to continue to expand my @dough_licious account throughout Miami as well as other cities that I have the opportunity to visit. Brand partnerships are another area I intend to continue to grow. This space and industry has endless opportunities, especially in a city like Miami, that is rapidly growing and expanding. I am very excited to see where else this journey takes me. Even within the past year, there are more new restaurants in Miami than I can list!
