My career in Home Staging started with my husband back in 2005 when he obtained his Real Estate license. He started buying properties to Flip, and I started helping him with material selections and then furnishing the homes because I thought they would look nice for the MLS photos.
Little did I know that this would become a full-time business. Things were going so well. The market back then was on fire, and so I decided to open Captiva Design Interior Decorating & Home Staging. Here we are 13 years later, and I have a thriving business which I LOVE, and I’m very passionate about. My business has evolved over the years, and we now offer Holiday Decor Staging, VIP Event Staging, Home Staging & Interior Decorating.
We love helping our clients, and we are very knowledgeable about the Real Estate industry which allows us to offer a wide range of services. Clients love our Interior or Exterior Color Consultations, and a simple One-Day Room Makeover. Our service is personalized to meet the individual needs of each client. No two homes are alike.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road to get to where we are today. We experienced great difficulty back in 2006 when the Real Estate market took a decline. We had to re-think, how could we stay in the business until the correction took place. I took a class in Interior Decorating at Broward College, and decided to work with clients on fixing up their homes, and making it personal for their taste.
Gradually, the market started to turn, and then we were prepared to get back into the business of Home Staging. To our advantage, we had an established Realtor client base. We focused on reconnecting with Realtors by doing presentations on the benefits of Home Staging, and how this marketing tool could be used to help Listings get sold.
Please tell us about Captiva Design Interior Decorating & Home Staging.
Captiva Design is a Home Staging & Interior Decorating Company based in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. We offer personalized service because no two homes are alike. We are big on educating our clients on the benefits of Home Staging. We also specialize in Interior Redesign for “lived-in” properties.
These are clients that are trying to sell their home while living in the home. We do a consultation with the homeowner and give them a detailed room by room report of recommendations to prepare their home the right-way for Top-Dollar Resale.
We also provide Interior Decor consultations for homeowners who just want to fix up a room based on their personal style of decor. For those clients who have already vacated the property, we can provide rental of furniture, artwork, and accessories to give potential buyers a visual tool when viewing a property, otherwise known as Vacant Home Staging.
Clients love our One-Day Room Makeover service along with our Color Consultations. We use top name brand paint, and we can also provide a licensed and insured painter to make the process of decorating “stress-free.” Client’s just loved our attention to detail and follow-up. We treat every client like a VIP no matter how big or small the project. While some companies are not interested in working on small projects, we love them!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory of my childhood was decorating my bedroom. I would always like to change around the furniture, and create new looks. I also loved looking at other peoples homes when we would visit family and friends.
