Today we’d like to introduce you to Serge Kass.
Hi Serge, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all begun when I was 12 y.o. and was gifted an SLR camera by my Grandpa. Little that I understood and foreseen that it will ultimately become my passion.
Some years later, that’s all I could dream of, doing what I love most, Photography and Cinematography. I really enjoy the technical approach when comes to creation of a unique image. Photography utterly means Drawing with Light, from Greek φωτός (phōtos) means Light and γραφή (graphé) mean Drawing. Be it a candid emotion or a staged pose, I choose the creative lighting in order to achieve a creative result.
Cinematography means Motion Drawing, and when it comes to document an emotion or film by a script (commercial or even a wedding), it’s so crucial to not only be technical about your lighting but also about the movement happening in the frame, to the point where it doesn’t distract from watching but rather encourage.
From 10+ Years in this amazing field, I met a lot of creative people and friended professionals that only fortified what is known today as KASS STUDIO. I truly believe that something Big is always achieved by Big Dreams and ultimately the Right Team.
From Weddings to Commercial Projects, I and my team is here to do what we love doing the most, Collect Recollections that make a Statement.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, I like speaking about difficulties, because they make us evolve. Main difficulty for a photographer (and a creator in general) is probably the never ending challenges, trial shoots, the development of that unique style and look that will define your style and one day will speak for you. I think this is a never ending chase for something much better, more unique than what you did before, I wouldn’t call it a difficulty or struggle, rather a fruitful challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer with a passion towards everything that involves working with the Light. I’m not an easy to impress type of person and look into a lot of details when appreciating something.
Henri Cartier-Bresson and Leonardo da Vinci it’s what really inspired me and influenced my style. I also admire the work of contemporary photographers a lot.
Colors are a language, as a photographer I can say I use colors to describe the mood the message in the photographs that I take. I’m known for the very exquisite approach to every shoot. I’ve been mentioned in Harper Bazaar worked with famous photographers as Antoine Verglas.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think mistakes and practice are two important factors that helped me educate and better myself. And also very important is to always learn and work on yourself continuously, there is always something new you can find out and bottom line, life is an always advancing spiral, so stay hungry
