Hi Deja, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Perfect Luxe Play was born out of a desire to share with other families like mine – what I love, fun for their little angels along with a piece of mind! My husband is a DJ, so my kids and I would tag along to a few of his events in the past and I would just say, our kids ALWAYS ended up in an area they were not supposed to be!
This sparked my interest in “What can I invest in for my kids and for the city of Palm Beach to enjoy?” But in the comfort of my own home that would keep them in a designated area, safe and for hours. I figured Mobile Baby Gyms/Soft Play Rentals – Tada! Perfect Luxe Play.
When COVID hit, the entire country went on a lockdown so everywhere closed down. I ended up losing my job after being in the Tourism & Hospitality industry of six years. I knew for a fact that moms like me with kids under the age of four would have related! At times, it gets stressful and we need breaks. So I figured they would benefit from this service I was about to bring to Palm beach.
I knew celebrations brought people together and being on lockdown for that period of time people wanted to get back together. We started to deliver to homes and/or wherever families was having their events. Everyone loved it! Their kids had an amazing time, they played all day and the parents had a piece of mind!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every small business owner has went through something when they started. Whether it was the entire startup process, navigating the entire business or who handles what aspects that are a part of the business.
For me, my challenge was patience, I wanted families to see what I offered right away! I wanted them to enjoy FUN but in a safe and different way by bringing soft play rentals to their events. I knew that patience is necessary for success. It is said that “all good things come to those who wait”. So I waited and kept the faith because at times, I put myself down about not getting people familiar with my service. In my mind, I wanted it to happen overnight but I told myself that to achieve anything of significance, I cannot expect to achieve it overnight.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of being a mother and a wife. Motherhood has taught me many life lessons. They have inspired me to try new things. I would’ve never started my business if it wasn’t for them. Kids just want to learn about the world around them. When I got the equipment for Perfect Luxe Play, my kids never left it alone. They would play for hours. That made me very happy knowing they can safely explore and have fun while doing it. Every day they grow a little bit more independent.
As my kids grow, I grow. They are my motivation to succeed. Some days I really just want to give up when it becomes overwhelming but it’s worth it! Of course, after lots of prayer and support from my husband. I make sure every event I’m a part of, every parent feels the same way I feel when I see the joy on my kid’s face while playing on the equipment. My ultimate goal for Perfect Luxe Play is to make sure that every child is celebrated and included in the event!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Consistency.
For me, consistency required me to put in hard work, perseverance and endurance day in and day out. I always remember the harder the struggle the greater the gain and progress. That is my key to success. Once you start, keep going. If you haven’t started, start!
