Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Soto.
Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I like to consider myself as an up and coming influencer. I started dancing when I was little, at the age of 11. Back then, I lived in Cuba and I was part of a group of performing arts called “La Bella Época”. We would dance, sing, play instruments, and do theater. We would participate in festivals and tour around the country. That was my first encounter with the performing arts and from there, I fell in love with everything related to performing. I came the States 12 years ago. My father had been living here for about 20 years and filed the petition to legally bring me to pursue my dreams. Soon after I came, I tried to get into modeling, but a lot of modeling agencies would ask for money to take classes and back then it wasn’t possible for me. I also focused on studying and completed my Bachelor’s degree in International Business and I’m currently pursuing my Masters at FIU. It wasn’t until 2-3 years ago that I discovered Tiktok and started dancing again. This time, I didn’t need a big stage nor a dance studio. I could just perform in my living room and little by little my account started growing. I’m still working on it as it has not been easy, but I am able now to keep on doing something that I truly love and I’m passionate about.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. A lot of pressure comes into it since nowadays a lot of people are doing social media and it is really difficult to stand out. Sometimes you put a lot of time and effort in a video and it does not perform the way you would expect. I used to get depressed when that happened and even considered quitting many times. But then again, I reminded myself that dancing is something that makes me truly happy and nothing comes easy in life. You have to push yourself and keep trying until you achieve your goals and reach your dreams.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I do work full time at a software company, I like to keep on dancing and pursue my dream of becoming a social media model or influencer. Everyone that knows me knows that dancing is my passion. I love Latin music and really enjoy coming up with choreographies to that rhythm. Something I’m most proud of (even though it’s not really related to dance) was definitely being able to graduate with honors from my Bachelor’s degree at FIU last August. It was definitely one of my proudest moments and something I will always treasure. Something that sets me apart from others is my dancing (of course), but also the fact that I’m always smiling and try to have a positive attitude in everything that I do. I’m also a very loyal friend and keep my friends and family in my heart.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I think the best way that people can work with me or collaborate would be through social media. Some brands occasionally reach out for collaboration. My social media handle for Instagram and TikTok is @alex_ssoto and I’m very responsive. I like to come up with creative ideas to promote different businesses and spread a positive and inclusive message.
