Daily Inspiration: Meet Shandra Cornelia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shandra Cornelia.

Hi Shandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working in the Hospitality industry in 2007, I decided to pursue a degree in Hospitality and Tourism management during which I also took classes in event management, this led me to becoming an intern at Sandals Resorts in their wedding department. I also spent some time being an intern in guest relations at Disney World Resorts. After my studies, I worked for a Destination management company focusing on Conferences, Incentive trips and corporate events. I moved on to becoming the Catering sales manager at Hilton Curacao. I kept feeling the passion and calling to be able to be creative and work more intimately with client on their events and weddings so I launched my own Wedding & event planning Business. Prior to launching my business, I decided to become a Certified Wedding and Event planner to enhance my knowledge even more. At Atlas Affairs, I combine my passion for travel with my passion for events, specializing in Destination Wedding & events.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting and building your own business is not easy, next to just wanting to follow your passion, you have to learn about taxes, marketing, building a website, bookkeeping and much more. There are definitely times when I feel like it is a lot or that perhaps I am not doing well enough, but you have to keep pushing because ultimately my goal is to help people create meaningful and unforgettable celebrations.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Atlas Affairs, we specialize in Destination Weddings. We plan seamless weddings with swoon-worthy design and amazing guest experiences in breathtaking locations. We love to create immersive experiences inspired by the story of our couples, travel and art.

We help busy couples save time, skip the stress, feel relaxed on their wedding day and impress their guests.

What sets us apart is that we only take on one wedding per week or weekend so we can devote great attention to our clients.

Rather than only focusing on the look of an event (the pretty & the glam) we focus on how an event makes people feel and its authenticity. We’ll help couples design a wedding that is true to them with intentional and thoughtful details. It isn’t about copying Pinterest or the pressure of doing it for the gram instead we’ll focus on elements that create an amazing guests experience so you and your guests can revel in the moment.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe that luck is where preparation meets faith. You have to believe you can and work hard and great things will happen.
