Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherese and Vandreeka Silver.
Hi Sherese and Vandreeka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I, Sherese Silver, was teaching in Tampa, FL in progress village. My students would come with a lot of baggage focused on their appearances and their at homes lives. Hearing about the trauma they are faced with at home was heartbreaking and I knew I had to make a difference. As a professional, I assisted as many students as I could but there were stipulations and guidelines in place that made my efforts stop at the school door. I reached out to my sister, Vandreeka Silver, and she suggested a Non-profit so there would be no limits on how we can help. After brainstorming for what seemed like forever, we created an extraordinary Non-profit that allows us to lend a helping hand and provide assistance throughout South Florida. We’ve assisted in helping inner city families overcome adversities by volunteering and assisting other local non-profit agencies with activities. So, I would say SheCares started with two sisters trying to make a difference by bridging the gap in communities. Today, we understand people need a helping hand. Whether that be financial assistance, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on and that’s the goal we work towards accomplishing every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, starting up the business wasn’t hard. We would post on social media to help spread awareness of what we were doing in the communities. We received great feedback helping us to expand and we have a website available. The biggest roadblock would be Covid because we were at a point we wanted to start working hand and hand with schools but Covid has limited a lot of in-person activities we wanted to launch. Most of our events are self-funded and donations aren’t always received but always find a way around that also.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I, Sherese, currently work for a federal agency legal department. I do all the ground work for cases we’re preparing to prosecute. Aside from my daily 9-5, I also do the groundwork for SheCares. I send the grant writing and I maintain the companies Instagram platform. Both of my careers are fulfilling and they coincide by me being in the justice system and seeing what the people need. Once I know what could’ve potentially helped the defendant, I create an event or activity that would help civilians avoid being in situations similar to the defendants. I want the company to grow! I think SheCares can be as big as Red Cross. I believe we have the potential to bloom into something I couldn’t have imagined. I would like to hear radio stations mention the company and caseworkers refer people to SheCares. As long as we’re evolving and more successful than yesterday, I’m satisfied. Hopefully, our events are packed and we touch a lot of people. I want us to change lives through the organization. I, Vandreeka, am currently a tax examiner for Georgia Department of Revenue. I process individual and business returns along with doing backup Floor Support to assist agents. My passion would be to become a therapist, I’m known amongst family and friends for “live changing” advice. So, I decided to further my education to pursuing a bachelor’s in psychology. Hopefully, able to obtain my master’s after. I run our Facebook platform and creating our events flyers. I also play a part in maintaining our budget for events and making sure everything is smooth sailing. I like to say I play the back. Sherese is more of the social butterfly so I let her spread her wings handling the contracts and grants.
We are most proud of the journey. Everything takes time and with COVID being our biggest obstacle thus far, we are entering a new season and things are finally turning around.
What sets apart from others is the ability to resonate with the people. We live everyday lives; we don’t come from wealthy parents or a privileged family. But we recognize what the people need and we are willing to put ourselves on the line and fight to help anyone in any way we can. Whether that’s money coming from our checks or the clothes on our backs. We will always give our all and their need will always be priority.
What’s next?
Right now, I am in talks with some originations that believe in our vision and want to assist us with funding. Once everything is finalized, we will be announcing one of our first community give-backs! I am so excited to launch these events because we are gearing up for our annual yearly givebacks and launching a scholarship to help with funding for colleges.
