Today we’d like to introduce you to Eugenia Peralta.
Hi Eugenia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has always been my passion. I grew up in a family of artists and I was surrounded by art all the time. Before my father passed, he gave me a beautiful and powerful painting of an ocean. I remember its impact, feeling drawn into it and in that moment, I realized the power that art has on people, their feelings, their lives and their environment. I am a firm believer that everyone has had that moment with an artwork; it is a certain “je ne sais quai” that moves you at your core and touches your very essence.
After studying Communications in Mexico City at the Iberoamericana University, I started a boutique public relations agency and worked with luxury and fashion brands, such as fashion designers Macario Jimenez, Clara Gonzalez, throughout Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Additionally, I organized a few art shows with local artists, giving them exposure to local and international media outlets and selling almost all of their artworks to seasoned Mexican collectors.
However, after spending many years in the Public relations and Marketing world, I realized that art was my true calling. In 2008, I decided to leave the industry and dedicate my life to my true purpose by studying my Masters in Contemporary Art at the “Sotheby’s Institute of Art” in New York City. During my years in New York, I worked at a well-known gallery in Soho representing artists such as Ned Vena, Paul Cowan, among others, as well as for the “New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA)”, a not-for-profit art fair. Additionally, I worked at Bambi Homes Colombia, dedicated to protecting and caring for disadvantaged children across that country, organizing a fundraiser art auction raising more than $120,000 dollars for the cause.
After several years in New York, I moved to Miami in 2015 where I was immediately immersed in the city’s unique and vibrant cultural environment. I’ve always been interested in learning about new cultural scenes and in connecting with both emerging and established artists in Miami, South America and beyond.
I started “Eugenia Peralta Art Consultant” in 2020 with the purpose of becoming a bridge between artists and collectors and humanizing the process of collecting art beyond an economic transaction to one that is more deep, knowledgeable and intimate.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As every entrepreneur, I’ve faced some challenges along the road. The first one would be to realize what my true calling is and to follow that instinct. People thought I was crazy to leave behind a very successful PR firm to pursue my dream, but it has all been worthwhile. Everything started to unravel little by little. I was not afraid to knock on different doors, even if I didn’t receive the answer that I expected… It has all been a learning experience.
The Second challenge was to redefine myself as an art consultant, develop my value proposition, and amplify my story to the world. It’s been both a science and an art, full of lessons beautiful triumphs; all in all, an unbelievable journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My mission is to teach and advise people on the process of collecting art. My purpose is to humanize and curate that process, learning about the clients’ tastes, experiences, inspirations and motivations. I provide expert advice on how to start or complement their collections. I want to create meaningful connections between the artists, the collectors and myself. I aim to find the perfect artwork that would impact my client’s life that would resonate with their personality.
I make special emphasis on helping my clients make informed investments in art. In order to do so, I dedicate my time to getting to know my clients and learning what motivates and inspires them. It is a complete process that includes a discovery session, procuring, selecting, and curating artwork, including acquisition and installation.
I bring together my passion for the arts, my experience in the field to create a personalized and curated process for my clients, and my experience in public relations and marketing to have a unique and curated experience.
I also work with businesses and corporate clients to help them better understand their aesthetic interests, establish budgets, and provide guidance during the art selection and acquisition processes. I am always open and eager to learn from different artists and mediums to better advise my clients.
I’ve created collaborations between artists and fashion brands, like Lume Swimwear and luxury handbags designer Ximena Kavalekas. Some of the artists I have worked with are Tania Esponda, award-winning Gildo Medina, Cocolvu, Conchita Pineda, Guillermo Celis, among others. More so, I am an active member of the Mexican Cultural Institute in Miami and The Ant Project, a non for profit organization for the arts. Additionally, I’ve been invited to be part of the Board of the 2022 Art Auction Committee for Mexico Vivo, a non for profit dedicated to promote sexual health and education.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Coral Gables is a wonderful city to live in. Its vibrant cultural and art scene makes it the perfect scenario for different artistic proposals like music, theater, dance and art, having something for everyone. I applaud the City’s creativity to plan ahead different initiatives around the year. One that I particularly like is Illuminate Coral Gables, which combines art with light exhibitions around the city. My favorite was Cai Guo-Quiang’s Fireflies, art transformed pedicabs that made their way through the city displaying Chinese lanterns and interactive sculptures embracing different cultures and motifs. I can’t wait to ride one this year.
