Today we’d like to introduce you to Nashia Andre.
Hi Nashia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am 23 years old and I am a Miami Makeup Artist. Now my love for makeup started at a young age, I used to play in my aunt’s makeup every single day while she was away at work and I just fell in love! I really started doing makeup on other people my Junior year in high school because I used to do my makeup every day for school and people started to ask me to do their brows, eyeshadow and just anything beauty-related for their dance performances for school. I would always say yes just because I loved to do it. One day someone was like, hey you could make money from this and I was like really? Now, this is when Instagram was really becoming a big thing so I made a makeup page! I didn’t know what I was doing but I rolled with it, this was in 2016. Fast forward now to 2021, I decided to go full-time entrepreneur and it’s such a scary experience for me but honestly I know it will be so worth it because this is my dream to be a makeup artist and entrepreneur.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road! Nevertheless, it has been a very transformative journey for me. Since I decided to put my all into my business and stop building up other people’s businesses, I’ve learned so much about myself and the business world. Juggling being a full-time mom of a one year, a full-time business owner and a part student has been very difficult trying to balance but it has taught me how strong I am and what I’m capable of. Sometimes my schedule is so crazy and I get overwhelmed mentally, physically and I break down but I always pick myself up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a part of the beauty industry can be very interesting because there are so many different things that you can do. I am a makeup artist and I specialize in what I like to call very glam makeup. Not so much Instagram makeup but a cross between red carpet and insta makeup. I’m known for how I do my brows my clients love the way I do the brows! Plus, I have recently started to tap into hair as well. I have always had a slight love for hairstyling so now you can come to me and get a full makeover in one place by one person! I would say what sets me apart is my genuine love for beauty and to service others. I love glamming my girls because it makes them happy and seeing that makes me so happy as well. I have also worked in the food industry and retail industry prior to my journey to full-time entrepreneurship so I know what customer service means to people and how important the client experience is.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, I have learned so many lessons from Covid-19. This pandemic has shown me not to rely on one source of income! You do not have to be a business owner but you should have multiple streams of income. Covid is what really pushed me to go full throttle for my business because we don’t know what tomorrow holds for us so you have to live your life out to the fullest of your true desires.
