Rising Stars: Meet Sergey Gordienko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergey Gordienko.

Hi Sergey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story started in Russia about 40 years ago. When I was a kid my mom(an artist) showed me how to draw and since then painting and drawing was my favorite thing to do. I got my master degree in Art and Design University. Then about ten years, I was working as a graphic designer, art / creative director in design studios and even running my own design company. Ten years ago, I decided to move to the USA and start doing what I really want to do. After ArtBasel in 2015, I finally made a decision to dedicate my whole life and be a full-time artist and do what I love.

It took me about 2-3 years to completely switch from digital artist to become a full-time painter artist. Also, I would love to give some credits to my soulmate Maria Tokareva (IG @missfrais), a local artist who believed in me and supported me from the beginning all this time. Together we collaborated and did many exhibits and art shows.

If you ask me why DO WHAT YOU LOVE is so important to me?

I believe that this is the most important message in the world. I believe if everyone will do what they really love, the whole world would be a better place. Stress, jealousy, depression and other negative emotions will be gone or at least decrease dramatically. People will feel happiness and purpose in their lives.

And more people finally understand and start thinking in this direction. What do they really love to do? Life is too short to waste on something that you are not enjoying.

How did I start being a Do What You Love Artist?

In the beginning, I created a few pieces with the DO WHAT YOU LOVE message and shared them on my Instagram and I got a lot of positive feedback. A few people asked me to create something like that for them and at that moment, I understand that this message resonates with so many people so I decided to stick with this message and throw my art to remind and inspire people to find their passion and do what they love.

My artistic journey really started about six years ago when I came to Miami for my first ArtBasel in 2015. When I saw and met so many amazing artists and people who appreciate art, I decided to dedicate my whole life to being a full-time artist. It was challenging and not a simple journey but I never regret it and I’m super grateful for all the people that supported me and believed in me.

For the past years, I created hundreds of art on canvases, customized jeans and leather jackets and done several murals around. Now I have a studio/gallery in Wynwood, I participated in all the main art shows and exhibits. I am also into crypto art and NFT and I’m one of the first artists who started working in crypto art and NFTs in Miami. My paintings are around the world and some very famous celebrities and business owners got some of my art. Even mayor of Miami have one of my art for his office in City Hall https://dowhatyoulove.art/blockchain-center-grand-opening-or-how-i-met-the-mayor-of-miami/

Now I’m working on my new NFT Collection and a book.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not 🙂

It’s been an up and down roller coaster journey and the biggest challenge was do not give up and continue doing it doesn’t matter what. Also making enough money to continue this journey was the biggest challenge.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I create beautiful and powerful visual art. I do painting with different mediums – usually it’s acrylic on a canvases. https://www.dwylstore.com/product-category/do-what-you-love/original-paintings/

How do you think about luck?
I believe in energy and attraction this energy to our lives. I believe if you are sharing positive high vibrations the right people and opportunities will come to you and you might think you got lucky, yes but it also because of your action and decisions that you made that helps you found this ‘luck’.

Pricing:

  • At this moment my price range for canvases art is $7-$15K
