Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Harmon-Black.
Hi Alisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing nails at home as a hobby at first for my family and friends. It wasn’t until I was approached by a Salon Owner to work in her salon that I started to value my vision and took it seriously as a career path. Stepping out of my comfort zone allowed me to learn so much from people I’ve just met. To be honest different personalities were a bit intimidating starting out but I quickly adapted once I realized that my work is impactful. My clients tell me I bring joy to them and that for me makes it all worth it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I used to doubt myself a lot, still do but not as bad as in the beginning. I was insecure of my talents so receiving compliments and praises for my work was hard for me to accept.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed full specialist that focuses largely on nails as I specialize in free-hand nail artwork. I’m best known for the quality of my work and my efficiency. I am set apart by my peers because I genuinely listen to my client’s desires and advise them if needed. I won’t let you leave my chair until we’re both 100% satisfied.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’d recommend placing yourself in spaces with like-minded individuals and expressing your passions to everyone you meet because you’ll never know the possibilities that may open for you.
