Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanitza Guevara.
Hi Yanitza, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Cuba, a country where there was not much technology and not everyone had cameras to shoot photos. I remember that my grandparents had a small disposable film camera. Since I was a child, I always liked to have photos taken every time we went on vacation. At the age of 12, I came to this great country, where technology is very advanced and we all have the opportunity to have cell phones and cameras. I always liked to take photos, pose and take photos of other people. Over time I had several jobs, I tried to do several DIY businesses, but none of them appealed to me and with time, I got tired of doing it. Since I knew I was going to be a mom for the first time, I started taking studio photos with professional photographers on each special date. But last year, my husband bought me my first DSLR camera so we could take family photos and see how I do with the camera. So, in November 2020, I started buying cheap lighting sets and equipments and I began to photograph family members and friends for free to practice. I began to watch photography and editing classes on YouTube.
In December 2020, I decided to open my social networks and start my professional photography business, I started to advertise myself, I did some Christmas Mini Sessions. And everything started to go super well. Many people began to book for all kinds of sessions. In February of this year(2021), I decided to buy my professional camera and professional equipments. I left my comfort zone, I was looking for many ideas on the internet and on social medias for future clients since I always like to do something new, something different, something innovative. I realized that what really appealed to me was photography. I like that each person feels beautiful, comfortable in their sessions and every time they see their photos. I like that every pregnant woman feels beautiful, attractive, sexy and unique in her session. Anyway, since then everything has gone very well for me, each client is always satisfied and happy with the work. Every month I try to learn something new and put it to work. And thanks first of all to God, to my husband and to each client, family and friend for all their references to others, for their good reviews, for all their support in this journey throughout this first year, Today, I can open my own photo studio, which will open its doors God willing in February 2022. Where there, we will continue creating many more memories and many new things.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hmmm… Smooth road ?? Definitely not! I believe that every business at the beginning is difficult and has ups and downs. The first year is always the hardest. The hardest thing for me has been learning to edit the photos and learn how to position the lights in each different scenario. Since I didn’t have the budget to pay for all those types of different classes. I learned everything by myself by watching how other photographers did it through tutorials on YouTube. Every day you learned something new. For this reason, I know that I need to continue taking photography classes to improve my work every day.
