Inspiring Conversations with Yisel and Taylor of Mind & Body Integrative Counseling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yisel and Taylor.

Hi Yisel and Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our founders started as counselors in the community working with individuals and families through hardships and trauma. Mind & Body Integrative Counseling Center was founded by genuine, kind, talented women who are beautiful inside and out. They have an immense passion for what they do and who they serve. Mind & Body ICC was created and born out of the deep care they have for their clients, communities, and fellow counselors.

With over 15 years of combined experience as marriage and family therapist and mental health counselor, Yisel and Taylor have supported many individuals and families through difficult times. Their dedication to the field and motivation to help others presented an opportunity to work together for a bigger purpose. That bigger purpose is Mind & Body Integrative Counseling Center in Pembroke Pines.

Meet the Founders

Yisel Fernandez, LMFT, CCTP, TIRT: I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I specialize in trauma. Those that know me know how passionate I am about the field of Trauma and providing a safe space for individuals to heal in a non-judgmental way. I am also passionate about training and providing support to other professionals in the field.

In my practice, I incorporate holistic services such as Reiki, Sound bath, Meditation and Mindfulness. I am a firm believer in the mind-body connection and practicing with a holistic approach to help get individuals to a healthier self. I am a Certified Sound Therapy Facilitator & a Certified Master/Teacher Reiki Practitioner. I have extensive training in Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), an evidence-based model for working through trauma. I am a Certified Traumatic Incident Reduction Facilitator. Being able to witness the astounding transformation of the individuals that I worked with inspired me to share and train other professionals in the field to be better equipped when working in the field of trauma leading me to become a Certified TIR Trainer. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional and EMDR trained therapist. I am able to help couples have a better understanding of their emotions, identify their negative cycle and create a more secure attachment bond and connection using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

My passion for the field of trauma and training lead me to enroll full-time in the PhD program of Human Services.

Taylor Rosand, LMHC, CCTP: I have always been surrounded by mental health, personal and professional experiences. In high school, I made the decision to work towards a career helping people through their struggles. As many of us in this profession do, I wanted to understand the experiences I’ve had in my own life and learn how to help others prevent or heal from trauma and adversities. I went to Nova Southeastern University and graduated with a MS in Mental Health Counseling. I completed an internship while in school, working with children and families in a very under-served area. I learned so much about how and why families and children struggle. I learned about generational trauma and how it affects future generations in ways such as unhealthy attachment styles, inadequate skills to emotionally regulate, substance abuse, domestic violence, etc. After that experience, I knew I wanted to work with individuals & families and help them heal and become stronger. I started my first job at a nonprofit and learned SO MUCH. I am so thankful for the supervisors and colleagues I had there. I went into homes, schools, libraries, wherever my clients could meet for sessions. I learned how to do therapy wherever there was space with whatever materials we had. I worked with many clients over those years- some with specific, identifiable trauma and others who presented with behavioral/emotional symptoms. What I realized is that each and every child had some kind of trauma- and so did their parents. Trauma is all around us, conscious or unconscious.

I have grown so much in my profession and I continue to learn and teach others. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Traumatic Incident Reduction Facilitator, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, & an EMDR therapist. I am also a qualified supervisor for mental health counselors looking to become competent licensed professionals. I believe everyone deserves to live their best life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have faced some challenges along the way- we were never businesswomen, we were therapists. So a lot of our struggles were, like many therapists, learning how to be businesswomen and run a successful business while still wearing our therapist hats. We wanted to provide a quality service to our clients while being able to support our families. We sought out coaching and guidance from a local women run business, The Private Practice Startup, and learned valuable tips and tricks to help us build our dream. Throughout this process, we have learned a lot about ourselves and what each of our strengths are. We have really learned how to work together to keep one another motivated and feeling supported.

As you know, we’re big fans of Mind & Body Integrative Counseling Center. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Mind & Body Integrative Counseling Center specializes in trauma, depression and anxiety. We provide services to individuals, couples and families. Our mission is to provide integrative treatment through a mind-body connection by implementing a holistic approach to empower individuals to become their best self. Our professionals utilize evidence-based approaches that allow you to process your stress, trauma or other difficulties and finally experience relief. One area that we feel very passionate about is self-care. We love meeting other therapists and providing them with a safe space to unburden themselves from the work they do. We know how easy it is for therapists to experience compassion fatigue and burnout. Our goal is to provide support whether through their own individual therapy, licensure supervision, or educational workshops so we can help others through the vessel of a healthy therapist.

As a business, we provide individual services to our clients which allows for a great deal of healing, but the beauty of what we do is that we are able to provide group events where men and women can come together and experience healing in a group setting. We host monthly events such as sound baths, full moon manifesting & meditation, vision board and self-care & couples workshops. During these events, we see so many people connect with one another on similar experiences, successes, and struggles. It’s a powerful thing.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Yisel: Success for me is showing up as my authentic self everyday. Is that balance of getting to do what I am passionate about while remaining present for family and friends. As Maya Angelou once said, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

Taylor: For me, success is feeling fulfilled by what I do every day. I believe success is measured in the little steps you take to reach your goals. Too often, we look for the signs of a big accomplishment as success, but we forget to see the steps we took along the way to get there. The accumulation of those little steps becomes the big achievement and celebrating those little steps is how you stay motivated to become successful.
