Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Moreno.
Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My makeup journey began when I was 13. Around that time, I had older friends who would put makeup on me for fun and I remember liking it so much that I was constantly begging and trying to convince my parents to let me have makeup of my own. Eventually, they gave in and Sephora soon became one of my happy places. My learning experience consisted mostly of watching beauty guru’s do their makeup on youtube and experimenting with my own preferences.
As I got older, my skills became better and I would always get compliments and comments to start doing makeup on others. I never took the idea seriously though until the beginning of this year when I was looking for a job. For me, the idea of working for someone else and being given schedules was always what stopped me from taking a part-time job. I always wanted to be in charge of my own time so I knew I had to do something of my own. I kept seeing entrepreneurs on Instagram starting their own small businesses so the idea of starting a makeup business sparked from (1) being inspired by other small business owners and (2) from the talent I knew I already had and would help me succeed. And now when I look back at the beginning of this year, I’m really proud of myself for taking that leap of faith and investing in myself because I can tell you that it was definitely worth it. Every client who has supported me thus far has been a blessing and I know that I have many more of those blessings to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any new job, there are always things that are going to be hard at first. Starting out, it took me some time and patience to build a clientele and to learn how to effectively market my work. Fortunately though, along the way I had help from my friends who would let me glam them up and use my work on them as a way to build my portfolio and create content on my business socials. Youtube tutorials were also not enough to prepare me for real clients or the reality of the job. For years, I was used to doing makeup only on my face but as a makeup artist, you have to be ready to work on different face shapes, skin tones, and skin types. All these things took me some time to get comfortable with but with practice, I became more confident and my makeup skills are now versatile enough to handle anything. I’m still learning new things everyday though! Trends, styles, and tools are always changing and keeping up with them helps me keep my skills and business ever-growing. It’s also fun to switch things up because as an ARTist being artistic and creative is one of the joys of the job! 🙂
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in professional makeup for special events. For the most part, I create soft glam looks which I’ve become well known for. On occasion when I have a client who wants something different and creative, I can create editorial or glamorous looks. Overall though my makeup style is classy and elegant which my clients love! To be able to say that I have clients who love my work that much that they specifically only come to me is one of the proudest things a makeup artist can experience. With that being said, something that sets me apart from others is that it’s important for me to create a close community with my followers and clients. On my socials, I always try to incorporate different ways to interact with them so that they could get to know me better, but also to use my platform/business to inspire growth and positive changes for everyone who sees <3
