Today we’d like to introduce you to Aswand Cruickshank.
Hi Aswand, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was a football player from the ages of 7-22. After needing to take a year off because of a torn ACL. I got the “wake up call,” I realized that I won’t be able to play the game forever. Upon graduation from Stony Brook University, I hit the ground running. Took on all the highs and lows of being an entrepreneur and having big goals & aspirations. Eventually, I found that my passion was motivating people, and I’ve published four books and host a podcast named “Move Swiftly,” in which I help people from all walks of life find their calling.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, not at all. The struggles started in high school, I was completely out of my comfort zone. Being one of the few black males that attended my high school, I was called the N-Word, I was physically assaulted by administrators. Once high school was over and I had my knee surgery. I was lost, I struggled to figure out what I was going to do without football. After college was over the struggles continued as I tried and failed on a lot of business ventures. Failed to the point in which I was sleeping out of a car that was eventually repossessed, my phone was cut off, and the very athlete’s that I strive to serve looked at me like I was some sort of criminal.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What you should know is that I’m always trying, and what I do is motivate people.
What I specialize in is resonating with people out there that have no option but to keep trying, the adults that have a leadership role in a young person’s life, and that young person depends on them to make ethical decisions.
I am known for having a great amount of optimism and energy, also having great ideas, and what sets me apart is the fact that I WILL KEEP TRYING! No matter how many negative opinions I have to hear, I know what’s moving me is the fact that I don’t grind just for me. I grind to create opportunities for the youth.
That’s what I’m most proud of, not letting negative opinions get in the way of what’s best for the kids.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
It’s a Necessity. I moved to Florida without any friends or family and no job offer. All I knew is that my passions are football and fitness, and I knew I’d be able to eventually align myself with the right people because I’m in an environment where football & fitness are taken very seriously.
I moved to south Florida to take a part-time job with the Miami Dolphins, and I had to find another part-time job as a trainer, and I made that work in one of the most expensive cities to live in. Without the experience I had with those two jobs, I never would’ve been able to become a paid speaker, host a podcast, and be a multi-published author. No risk no reward!
