Exploring Life & Business with Nick Laiuppa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Laiuppa.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started a recording studio here in West Palm Beach in 2015. I was 23 years old at the time and was still wet behind the ears in terms of owning a business. I had two equal partners when we opened and we each kind of took on different roles. I was in charge of marketing to get people in the door. That’s when I started to hone my chops in the field that would eventually be my career. After a bit, we gained some traction online and in the community, eventually becoming the most reviewed and highest-rated studio in the area. As artists came in I started working with them on their marketing to get their music out there. We opened up a photo and video studio in a nearby building to create visual content for the artists as well, achieving our goal of being a “one-stop-shop” for music artists. In 2018 I left the studio to take what I learned about marketing and advertising into the business world. As a way to start, I began freelancing for different marketing agencies and learning the ropes in that industry. One by one, I gathered up my own client base and slowly transitioned from freelancing for agencies to owning my own agency. Now, we run full-fledged digital marketing and advertising campaigns for small to medium-sized businesses. My most recent shift has been in taking what we’ve learned with our clients and applying that to the private school sector. Now, we’re creating a branch of the company dedicated to helping these private schools get and keep more students with a guarantee that no one is brave enough to offer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Really, nothing about starting or running any of the two businesses that I’ve been a part of has been smooth. There’s a real desire to work for yourself and to be an entrepreneur these days but I don’t think a lot of people are truly cut out for it. There is a level of consistent uncertainty that you have to be comfortable with and a lot of self-motivation that has to be done in order to keep moving forward. There are a ton of challenges that come with the everyday aspects of owning a company, especially if you’re figuring it out as you go. Logistics are annoying, taxes are challenging, information is hard to find because you don’t know what you don’t know, contracts are confusing, hiring is hard, building systems and processes is difficult, the list goes on and on really. To put it nicely, the reason I left the studio in the first place was that my other partner and I didn’t see eye to eye with our 3rd partner and things got messy. That was definitely challenging and one heck of a learning experience. Looking back, a bit older and wiser now, I’d suggest getting an education in the “basic” business practices. Whether that is with specific books or paying experts to teach you what they know. I could have avoided a lot of hard lessons if I would have gotten the training earlier on. These days I’m big on continued education and commit a portion of the business’s income to reinvest in paid training every year. That alone has helped make one of the biggest leaps in my business to date.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nick Laiuppa Marketing (real original name right) is a digital marketing and advertising agency. But, agencies are usually slimy folks who promise big and deliver small. I learned this as I worked my way through seven agencies in my freelancing days. I always thought it was hypocritical that they make their clients sign contracts that commit the client to the agency but the agency won’t guarantee the results that made the client commit to the agency in the first place. How can you ask for their guaranteed businesses without guaranteeing their result? Always struck me the wrong way. So, we don’t do slimy things. We’re the people you’d want to work with if you had a choice. But, there’s a catch. We only work with people that we know that we can help because we guarantee that we can help you. We get businesses more customers and help them keep more customers through Google advertising, social media advertising, email marketing, review generation, SEO, and direct mail marketing. We’re also starting to take our proven methods to private and independent schools to get and keep more students. If you think you can benefit from having your marketing and advertising done the right way then take the assessment on our site. One of our experts will personally review your business and share the best option for your marketing your specific business.

What makes you happy?
I get the most joy when we get to see how our services improve the lives of everyone involved. The business owner, the employees, the customers, etc. I’ve seen how helping businesses succeed can trickle down from top to bottom & how significant our services really can be. Also, fishing. If I’m not doing marketing things, I’m fishing. But, I’m only good at marketing. Sidenote, my wife and I are expecting our first child in June 2022 so we’re both pretty joyful about that these days.
