Meet Magdala Joseph

Today we’d like to introduce you to Magdala Joseph.

Hi Magdala, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a fashion model and CEO of Supercute Miami. I am originally from Haiti, I currently reside in Miami Florida, Fashion is my passion and for as long as I can remember wanted to emerge myself in the industry as a model, then came a desire to express my fashion sense more profoundly through retail. Considering the many demands of the industry, I always felt that I had to choose. Then I decided why choose when I could have both.

During the year 2019, I finally gathered the courage to step into this journey with God and by faith. After preparing the structure of Our business, the most difficult task was finding the Name. Name’s that came were very pretty obvious, such as Magdala’s fashion house, and Magdala’s closet, etc… however, none of those names were sticking. Then through prayer and meditation God gave me Supercute Miami, and instantly that name felt like home.

We were preparing for a big launch for spring 2020, we had already curated our first collection for spring and aligned our logistics to launch an e-com and also curated pop-up experiences for our future clients! but due to the unforeseen pandemic, we had to go back to the drawing board to Re- strategize our business to adapt to the new normal.

I was very nervous in terms of launching due to the priorities of the world-changing to accommodate the pandemic, and with quarantine being mandated by our world’s leaders, we must agree that fashion was certainly not on top of our list as consumers myself included! We experienced a devastation that none of us had foreseen! For that matter consumers became more strategic as to how they spent and being a new business, I felt that I may not stand a chance and I caved and decided to postpone our launch to re-assess the market and gain clarity.

Finally, I was instructed by God to launch, nothing about it made sense because we were still on lockdown and had no idea what to expect, there were a lot of odds in terms of timing, there were really no necessity for clothing as the world was still on lockdown with nowhere to dress and attend to apart from the grocery store. However, by faith in the summer of 2020, precisely Juneteenth we launched Supercute Miami, and it was no coincidence that we launched on such a Historic date because we are a black-owned business! So the timing was perfect!

Considering the new normal, we endeavored to provide quality fashionable pieces for the everyday woman. Our brand’s feminine, elegant and effortlessly sexy aesthetic is expressed throughout our collections. We strive to curate the best fashion collectibles for the confident woman who wants to conquer the world, the conservative girl picking her poison or the outgoing fashionista exploring all of her stylistic whims.

Our brand embodies uniqueness and beauty, exclusively for women. My own style and femininity were the blueprint for the aesthetic and direction of each collection. I believed that every girl should be able to look and feel her best, whether that be on a trip to the grocery store, a walk through the park or to dinner at any of Miami’s endless options. My notion was that we don’t need a special occasion to express our sense of fashion — every second is a moment to feel fabulous. Pandemic or not, we are going to be cute and intentional about our appearance. By focusing on my passion, I was able to channel that message to our customers. And a year later, I must be able to remain true to our values and also mindful of our client’s pockets by providing quality and sustainability in their wardrobe to face this pandemic.

Quality is our brand’s priority. One of my pet peeves is cheap fabric, that factor was greatly emphasized when sourcing our pieces. I did not believe in selling something that I would not wear myself. For that matter, Prior to launching, I ensured that we found indisputable quality pieces for our clients that are sustainable and eco-friendly. In search of our vendors, we ensure that they possess fashion construction know-how and a heart for the environment. We can proudly say that since our opening, we had no complaints concerning fabric and poor construction.

I believe that Fashion has a unique role in making the world a better and more vibrant place. We are firm believers in that the way we dress is a reflection of who we are and has a significant impact on one’s confidence. By providing women with timeless pieces and effortless silhouettes, we help one to feel their best and most confident self, allowing her to dominate in all areas of her life, both social and professional. Our mission is to empower women from all walks of life, one outfit at a time.

Our brand is nothing without our clients that believed in us! Despite the pandemic, they bought in our vision and due to their support, we were able to stay in business. We really struggled the first year, we’ve also seen brands that were in the industry for years shut their doors and never re-open. For that matter, I give Honor to God for sustaining the vision that he had given me and for allowing us to thrive through the pandemic. As we prepare to launch our Holiday Edition. We remain optimistic concerning our goals for our brand, and we have so much in store for loyal and new customers. and we can not wait to give back to our community, especially to the women of our community.

To our super cute Miami babes. We will continue to serve you and make you proud of wearing our pieces, not just by the fashion styles but also with our deeds. For you will continue to curate the cutest fashion collectibles.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Wow… sourcing and manufacturing throughout the pandemic. As we know, due to the pandemic the entirely world is short-staffed! So maintaining our standards was definitely a challenge. Especially with the inflation of materials needed to sustain our business. We had to maintain the same quality at the same price, though we had to sometimes operate at a loss to be competitive. In our case, we were new to the industry, so building customer rapport and trust was definitely a task, however we were able to build momentum without having to compromise our brand’s values,

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

I am currently looking for a modeling agency for the growth of my modeling career and to also grow my fashion business and I believe that I can have the best of both worlds; While I am in school obtaining a finance degree which will be a valuable asset to my business.

I believe my journey is what makes me unique, my life experiences has made me relatable to persons from all walks of life and my faith in God has aligned my narrative in such a way that enables me to always outgrow my comfort zone which propels me to the next chapter. It’s a beautiful mystery that I am still discovering as I endeavor to remain present for what is.

I am proud of my resilience and my God-given hunger for self-development, being born in a third-world country to middle-class parents that later became immigrants has definitely shaped my perspective of the world. I believe that as I grow into my purpose, I am becoming what I was born to be. I will not dare attach a title to myself as I am consistently evolving and I certainly will not disrupt the mystery of life by reducing myself to a little when I was created to be so much more.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that God is faithful, as long as I have existed, God has been the one consistent part of my life. I have also learned to surrender my expectations and to know that timing is not always easy but it is certainly worth it!
