Today we’d like to introduce you to Shameka Foster.
Hi Shameka, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started with just randomly making and designing little girl’s wear and shoes. I have always been into the fashion industry and I really loved it a lot. I was 20 years old. But before that, I always wanted to get into something and find my niche.
But I couldn’t really find out what it was. I knew as a teenager I always was photogenic and was into modeling and being fashionable. When I was in middle school, I auditioned to model and I made it to the next level, but it didn’t last on my end. So, fast forward when I turned 20, I got into clothes and shoes for little girls as I stated at the beginning. But that didn’t last either because it was too time-consuming. So, my next move was to start a business that will run smoothly for me and I don’t really have to do too much and it will help me on my life of living. I wanted to start selling clothes from wholesales. But it was very hard to get started because I never did this before. I reached out to a few people and it wasn’t any success. I kept searching for other people that could help me and I finally got connected to a young lady that gave me my first few wholesale vendors. Lord knows I was very excited and couldn’t believe that all it actually took was that little help and I learned and pushed myself and taught myself how to run a business and it took some sacrifices but I got it done. I named my business “mekboutique LLC”. After all of what I have been through. I started getting people coming to me randomly to help them get started with their business and not to forget I had a customer that made me who I am now because her story sticked with me and pushed me to expand my gift of helping others even further. I took it serious. I was too excited and I decided to post on Facebook and expire others and got more clients. I just wanted to help people and uplift people not through business but through life. So I named this business “mek boss Starter” with “mek boss business start-up services”.
Now, to fast forward I came back to the teenage shameka and literally got selected to be a professional brand ambassador model for blue Franswa and it lifted my spirit because this has all came together like I wanted it to. I started modeling in my clothing line and it was like a one stop shop while teacher others how to be bosses. Now, I took my knowledge to a higher me and got my mentor Taylor Kelly and I must say she played a big part in my business life. She taught me a lot as well. I started to be an investor and made big moves and will continue to make bigger moves. Life will not wait on you! You have to make it your business to start whatever you put your mind into and smash on gas and never stop, be humble and definitely never give up! This is where I am now.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The struggle was starting my business with no help and guidance. But I made a way on my own to maintain it and make it smoother for me down the line.
We’ve been impressed with Mek Boutique and Mek Boss Starter, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mek boutique is a women’s clothing line and I sell the clothes from my whole vendors. Mek boss Starter is a business that helps other people start their business or main their business with different techniques.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like that everyone is a hustler. They all start from the bottom and glow at the top but what I don’t like is that there isn’t a lot of support. So, it’s great to have clients outside of my town to expand.
