Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashon Walker.
Lashon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved fashion from the age that I realized I could express who I was or what I felt by way of my attire. I was once a runner that developed some medical issues that put an end to one of my greatest sport and that was running. So I decided I may not be able to do what I love anymore but it doesn’t stop me from continuing to motivate others thru my designs.
I have always been that motivator/supporter cheering on my run family being that I was a Run Leader for a running group called Black Girls RUN! So I continued to live my “Run” journey vicariously thru others while motivating thru my designs. This is how I originally got started out as an active wear company designing t-shirts and leggings with edgy, motivational sayings.
From here, I realize I wanted to give the world more fashion than just active wear. I decided to step outside the box and become a Boutique that not only sell active wear for men and women but also Semi-Formal, Trendy to Casual wear as well. I realize that women need to be able to express who they are thru their clothing and not feel they cannot because of their look or size.
My view on fashion as a woman is No matter my look or size, my ensemble should always display a strong, confident woman who embraces her beauty and curves. You define who you are, not the world!!! #IAMBeautifulIAmMyCurves #ForgetTheRulesWearWhatYouLike
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I will say this journey has not been a smooth road. I am that person that once I have a goal/thought in mind and I decided to go for it I’ve already envisioned how it should play out or suppose to play out (lol). Well things don’t always go as planned and sometimes it catches you off guard and you are forced to sink or swim.
I originally started this journey with a business partner/friend and that was very short lived. My then business partner walked away from the business leaving me the choice to either continue it or shut it down. This forced me to take on a task I wasn’t sure I was ready for alone. I’ve never run a business or even had the slightest idea where to even begin.
This was my “sink or swim” moment. Well, I realize I have never been a quitter and I usually go for what I know once I’ve set my mind to it!!! I made my decision that I am going to swim. I crossed many hurdles after I solely took over the business to get here today.
I must say the path was not easy and struggles were REAL but by the Grace of God, My Mom, Husband, Family, Friends and my faithful supporters, I’m still standing!!! I thank my ex-business partner because she helped make my dream a reality. If she didn’t push me to get started, I may not have been here. Everything happens for a reason, nothing is a coincidence in life.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kreate Apparel Boutique – what should we know?
I am a Boutique that sells high-quality fashionable women clothing at comparable prices. We cater to most sizes from petite to plus size, curvy women. Quality is one of our greatest assets. I will not compromise quality for quantity. Most of my items ordered I have to feel the quality of the material, I have to see it.
Sometimes I’m not able to do this since there are vendors all over the country, however, I am very particular about what I order that I cannot touch and/or feel. I feel my personal one on one customer interaction is what set my company apart from others. I take pride in a business I have built and I take even more pride in what my customers want.
Giving them that Boutique experience “one on one” personal experience. I don’t just sell a product to the customer because they ask for it. I make sure it’s what they need depending on the look they are going for. At the end of the day, we all want to make money but I want to make money knowing my customer walked out of my shop satisfied with their purchase (from cost to shopping experience) and confident enough to rock the product without hesitation. #DareToBeDifferent
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As I stated previously, My Mom and my husband (biggest supporters / cheerleaders) always there through the trials, storm, and sunshine. My friends (sisters) Heather, Terra and Leticia support me no matter what–“Day Ones.”
My loyal customers are phenomenal without a doubt. They keep me in employed (lol). I honestly must say each and every person that I have crossed paths with during this journey has been instrumental for sure. Just from words of wisdom, encouragement or support.
Stop by just to help put price tag labels on merchandise, making a purchase just because or just being that ear. Each person has played a part. I must mention my graphic designer who has been just as instrumental in this process.
My friends who have come thru to help make my boutique what it is today just by providing their free services without hesitation.
My models/photographer, they are the best. Stay ready, without a thought!! Lastly but most importantly, my creator!!! I couldn’t have done any of this if it wasn’t his will!!! To God Be The Glory!!!
