Life & Work with Lilly Lovely

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilly Lovely.

Hi Lilly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was young, I was always excited about what happens behind the scenes, seeing something came from nothing, whether it was creating a makeup look, a set or a story.

Creating has always been a part of me, I just spent a long time not paying attention to my true purpose, but when I did, my whole life turned around. I literally had to seize every single opportunity that I came across. I remember sitting in my car at my very first set gig, it was a photoshoot and the first choice Make Up artist called out last minute.

So, right before I entered M3 Studios. I told myself “Lilly! This can only go two ways! I do a horrible job and get kicked off set, or it can go great and I get called back, but you can’t stay hiding in this car! I grabbed my kit, entered the studio. And after that, I think you got an idea of what happened(wink, wink). I had the opportunity to work with that same celebrity on four more occasions. I started getting calls and started working on others production sets. I always made sure to speak to everyone, literally EVERYONE before I would leave a set. Networking was everything I had at the moment, being the underdog makeup artist, I always had to do three times the work just to be noticed. It was definitely worth it, in my journey I’ve been honored to work with numerous celebrities that I grew up listening to. And seeing my work on television isn’t too bad either.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
SMOOTH ROAD?? What’s that?

Absolutely not, but that’s what makes me so grateful of my career and what’s still to come. Nothing in life comes easy when you’re going against the grain. And I was definitely was going against a lot.

First, coming from a Caribbean culture, dropping a regular 9 to 5 job that I spent over five years at to jumpstart a make up/ creative director career sounds completely ridiculous.

Second, I’m a single mom of two boys.

So basically taking that huge risk was honestly my only hope. I literally gave myself the option to make it or MAKE IT! I was also coming out of troubled relationship with the father of my children, which come to think of it? It even gave me more of a push to really go hard, you know how people get after a breakup.

And let’s not recall the nightmare year of 2020!

Working on the production set is not for the weak. I’ve had countless times where I would leave a set of 16 hours at 6am in the morning, and prepare my oldest (5) son for school, then continue my day with makeup appointments.

I wanted to prove to myself that I can make my dreams come true. No matter what it takes. Keywords: PROVE TO MYSELF, nobody else and so far I’m proud of it. When you really want something, you gotta take it. The beauty industry and entertainment industry is full of competition, but I’ll tell you what? No one else brings what I bring to the table, and that goes for everyone. Through the trials and tribulations, everything else fell into place.

I still have my daily obstacles that come with being a single parent.

But I am all smiles because of what everyone thought I wasn’t capable of doing, I’m making a living out of it and providing for my family and I, which is a blessing and it’s only the beginning! I have a lot more under my sleeves!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I am a licensed beautician, but I am also a jack of all trades. I have also done some writing, modeling and acting. Although make-up takes care of my bills and expenses, creating; creating fuels my fire. I love doing creative projects with a purpose and ask different people’s perspectives of the same project. Whether I am doing hair, make up, creating a set or writing a script. If my name is going to be on it, trust that I will try my best each time.

I work with directors, photographers and videographers for video sets and photoshoots on one side of my work life, and on the other side, I bring the glamour life to hardworking citizens who want to glam up on special occasions or just because.

I have a special service called “Lovely Vixen Package” where it’s becoming a hit with moms, which I absolutely love. I produce a mini production of their desires. Whether it’s a sexy photoshoot or night out. My team and I come in and create their dream set, beauty services are included and also posing demonstrations while shooting are also included. The package varies on the client’s budget flexibility. This is also something I’m most proud of because the crowd it’s targeting is not what you see on television or magazine but the same type of people you see in your everyday life. I get to be a part of a huge confidence boost the moment a client sits up from my chair. That right there is precious to me and it stays with me.

Something that sets me apart, I think it’s my personality, the energy I bring while I am on set, even if it’s for 2 hours or 16! I stay with the same energy because I love what I’m doing! Also, I have my own techniques that are a little different when it comes to hair and make up or creating a set. I love my uniqueness that’s what makes Lilly; Lilly Lovely.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just want to share with the readers, believing in yourself is a major part of becoming successful in whatever you want to do. Don’t let this world of competition or clout chasing misguide you into thinking that people are just out here getting lucky.

Hard work pays off, and if you work SMART towards it. You can definitely conquer your dream life too…

Sincerely another person just like you, on their journey.
