Conversations with George Arango

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Arango.

Hi George, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I was a child, I have been very passionate about food. During the week, I would be spoiled at home with different dishes made daily by Abuela. On weekends, I would wake up to fresh croquetas and Cuban bread. As I grew, so did my appetite and I began to explore all the great food that surrounded me. I loved knowing about all the new restaurants that began to open and the variety of cuisines that my palate was discovering. In 2016, my fiancé and I first started dating and we were going out to eat every weekend. I would post all the pictures of food on my Snapchat story because this was prior to Instagram creating the story feature. After a few weekend outings, our passion for food and adventure began to catch the attention of friends of ours as they were curious as to where the next meal was going to be.

We then created ‘Mr.Eats305’ with the intention of not only helping our friends discover new places to eat in Miami but to help locals and tourists alike. We continued to showcase our adventures as a hobby for the first two or three years but as the page continued to grow, our content continued to progress and we started to grow this into a business. Although the page is still Miami-focused, I have had the privilege to travel and explore the food and adventures in other places aside from Miami. People now refer to me just as “Mr.Eats” and it has become sort of a persona. Whether I am in Miami or not, I embrace this persona while always repping the 305. Now, almost six years later, we love being able to help more and more people find great places to eat, fun things to do, and at the same time help businesses in our community thrive.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road at all! There are many obstacles and struggles that we face on this journey. The biggest being the unknown algorithm of Instagram. You may think you took the best picture or created the best video but the algorithm might think otherwise and the content won’t reach as many people as you wish it did. Another big struggle is the balance between eating as much as we do and working it off to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Some other struggles include photography, videography, photoshop, content creation, and other technicalities that you always want to improve when creating content. There are tons of others as it is not as easy as we may make it seem. However, through it all, the most important part is to continue to post and create content that you like, makes you happy, and are passionate about it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The main goal and focus of Mr.Eats305 is to help locals and tourists alike find great places to eat, things to do, and places to explore in Miami. We strive to achieve this goal by creating high-quality content and publishing it on the page. There are many other goals that we try to accomplish on Mr.Eats305. We try to share our adventures in an exciting and story-telling way to keep our audience entertained. We try to showcase all of Miami, every neighborhood, being one of the first at new restaurants and not forgetting about the classics either. I am most proud of the connections I have made and the growth of this city and specifically the hospitality/food & beverage industry in this city. Meeting so many people passionate about our city and watching it grow firsthand has been pretty cool. I can’t wait to see where Miami is in the next few years.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Do not focus on the likes or the analytics. Focus on what you have control over which is creating the content that you like and are passionate about. Stay consistent and do not stop just because you do not feel motivated to continue. Do not think the content has to be perfect. If you feel like it has value in the moment, post it! Do what you want, it is your page! If anyone has any questions or needs, any other advise, feel free to reach out!
