Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Oberlin.
Hi Fernando, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From Mexico city, I am an Executive Chef, so I grew up in a family of restaurateurs, I was exposed to everything that involves kitchen and catering since I was born. I really never thought of it as “My family has done this their whole life, I have to do it as well” I actually started studying international relations before culinary arts, I always got pulled into catering & culinary business then eventually I started my own business, a healthy food delivery company called Hello Lean this has been going for ten years now, highs and lows I’ve loved everything about it. Then I decided to reboot my family’s catering business “Oberlin Catering” here in Miami focusing more on social events, weddings, private dinners, etc.. same industry but different vibes, the thrills are different nonetheless both make me super happy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been more struggles than smoothness, starting a business with no investment funds is never easy, I’ve been in some very hard situations, I could make a list I’ve been through it all, from no money, clients not paying, taking my kid to my events because I couldn’t afford a sitter, not getting an event in months, but primarily testing my own resilience, being consistent and hopeful in the hardest times and that has taken me from that to serving ex-presidents, royalty, celebrities, amazing people, great weddings, great dinners the juice has been worth the squeeze.
