Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Shatokhina.
Hi Alexandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an internationally recognized artist from Novosibirsk, Russia. I am well known for my hedonistic abstract works that utilize decorative craft and the visual language of colors into contemporary sculptural art. My artwork is about enjoying life. I believe that if every individual is truly free to shape their own life, then they would want to live a life filled with maximum pleasure and minimum pain. That, my friends, is the basic idea behind hedonism.
I studied art in St. Petersburg, where I started my exhibition career as well. Then there were shows in Dubai, London, Bremen, Moscow but I found my biggest inspiration and success in the USA. In my first major New York solo show, “Points of Perception” at Art New York my art get a lot of attention and I sold everything on the first day. After that, I had a lot of other shows and all of them brought me new collectors and good networking. I received an extraordinary ability Viza in 2020, and now have a studio in Miami and I am happy to explore this land of new opportunities.
My art has changed a lot in Miami, becoming more bright and deep. I have opened myself more in hedonism theory. My colors are more dynamic now. Life in Miami matches more with the main concept of my art and my life. But still, it is just the beginning of the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was always a choice between giving up and keeping fighting for dreams. There are many challenges such as Marketing related problems, technical and managerial problems to channelise the Art materials to sell at the better prices. Having the ‘ no-response ‘ nightmare. I had all those in my life.
The art market is extremely competitive. Artists vie for display space and collectors. The cost of producing art and presenting it in a marketable way can be prohibitive.
Every artist faces a unique set of challenges.
My biggest challenge was to give birth to my daughter. My husband doesn’t help me and I decided don’t take any money from my parents. It’s completely changed my life. In this period, I built up my goals and kept going to them. I didn’t want to compromise between Art and making money. So I found a way to do both. I was too young to pretend to be an artist who lives only for art. Yes, I did sales, but I need to do something else. And I opened art studios for other artists. So I combined my art with real estate and got a good passive income and time and place for creativity. Here I built up my art career as well. Being in collaboration with other artists helps me to understand our needs more and find better solutions. Now I have a platform helping artists to promote themselves

My creative work is comprised of paintings, sculptures and installations. I channel my spiritualism to creative meditative abstract works. This exploration of color and spirituality manifests into contemporary sculptural works of art that connect the spiritual, physical, and mental planes. These are guided by the education background, energy, passion of color and intuition.
On my artistic journey, I have brought alive the conceptuality behind nature’s rarest of colors, texture, stone, and energy. My latest collection was inspired by magic stones. My deep study of the history that comes with stones and crystals has developed into a new form of art that stimulates and awakens undiscovered senses.
Crystals bring a unique spectrum of colors and warmth to the eyes, and color plays an essential role in my abstraction. In these abstractions, each tone, texture, and composition symbolize unique healing properties, emotions and spiritual healing. Whatever quality you are looking to awaken within yourself can be found in its own unique piece. Whether you are looking to restore peace, clarity or truth or activate strength, confidence, or abundance, my paintings are the gateway connecting man to the spiritual realm.
