Today we’d like to introduce you to Naty Pineda.
Hi Naty, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are a Children’s consignment store nested between Miami Shores and Biscayne Park. We sell kids fashionable apparel and accessories, along with locally made products such as handmade soaps, jewelry, greeting cards and up-cycled one of a kind handmade pieces. We provide a place where parents can shop for quality kid’s apparel, fashion brands, accessories within a reasonable budget.
Oliver and Juliet also provide local artisans an opportunity to showcase and sell their merchandise. We also work with local non-profit organizations that support women and children in distress by providing them with donations to benefit their cause.
Our store was conceived during the height of the pandemic. With too much time in our hands, we thought of different ideas to foster sustainable practices in our community and a consignment store was just the perfect fit.
Not only as mothers but as entrepreneurs, we quickly put together a business plan, we found a location and Oliver and Juliet became a reality in less than two months.
Now a year later, we are proud of what have we accomplished, the support of our community and how we have been able to slowly educate our consumers to shop sustainable, smart and to support locally women-owned businesses.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As any new business, the road is never smooth. We have encountered some challenges that we did not anticipate.
Getting the word out about our business and our practices has been the most challenging.
People in our area are not familiar with the concept of consignment or second-hand fashion. There are not enough Consignment stores in the city to create a community around them.
In our city #sustainablefashion is not a common practice, therefore, we’ve had a long process talking to people, educating them and creating awareness of how this amazing concept works for everyone mostly for their pocket.
Also, juggling day jobs, family life, motherhood and a store has brought challenges that we did not anticipate.
However, we are really enjoying the process and learning everyday. We rejoice with every customer that walks through our door and contributes to this cause. We want our store to be a long-term goal and a place where the community can come together to create and exchange ideas.
We’ve been impressed with Oliver and Juliet Children’s Consignment Store, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
