Today we’d like to introduce you to Valery Martinez.
Hi Valery, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Valeria, most people call me Valery and I’m a local Miami makeup artist. My artistry goes back to the early days of my childhood. I was always involved in art programs, coloring and shading was my absolute favorite.
After high school, I joined a school called Gabriels production in Coral Gables, FL. Gabriels productions main objection was shaping the future of makeup artist. With not only focusing on techniques but giving us direction on how to be a professional in the industry.
Must you find something you’re good at? Yes. Must you love it? Of course but, when you love what you do, and make that into a career and the your primary source of income, then you must work double and harder. You must find ways to break your harsh written lines and learn the sacrifice of achieving your dreams. The laborious hours you give to put a smile on someone’s face that is what makes it beyond special and worth it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing that you really want to obtain is a smooth ride, I keep hearing people say ”Do what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” I believe that is an absolute lie.

The laborious hours you give to put a smile on someone’s face that is what makes beyond special and worth it.
The purpose of doing what you love and turning it into a career is to be able to get home after a long day of work and not hate yourself for working a job where your true skills and abilities are not even counted for and have nothing to do with your true passion. Many of us have been in that position, working a job that has nothing to do with our calling.
If you are building yourself from the ground up, every part of your success is going to have a struggle story behind it. For every level, you reach there is a hard time you have to live. I can say that I’m no stranger to self-value and worth, but life and time makes sure that you learn and grow from your experiences. What you gain is a self-confidence that no one can ever take away from you. You must learn to humbly accept that you are great that you are gifted with a talent for a reason and not one of your struggle are in vain.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance makeup artist who works alongside side with various hair and makeup teams. This year however, I started my own hair and makeup group specializing in occasions such as weddings, film productions and photoshoots. I’m proud of many things, one of them being my lash line. I plan to keep growing my cosmetic line. My latest project is a waterproof eyeliner, coming this Fall.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes, I love to start my day in a realistic positive way, not everyday is butterflies and rainbows but you train your mind to stay above circumstances.
I made a checklist of how I like to start and end my day. I leave sticky notes around my house reminding me of my goals and important assignments.
I like listening to relatable motivational speeches on youtube, I also like listening to (Be your own makeup artist by Natalie Setareh), (Joel Osteen), (daily inspiration the Steve Harvey morning show).
