Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrell Rolle. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Everyone respectfully calls me “Mr. T.” I’m a Miami Native and was a full-time performer for Cirque Du Soleil. I perform two shows a day, ten shows a week; and still find ways to give back. As the Artistic Director for Studio 305 Home of the Rolle Project here in Miami and in the entertainment capital Las Vegas.
Tyrell is a very kind and giving person who doesn’t only think of himself but others within the liberty city community. His passion to bring at-risk kids to a place of believing that dreams can come true if they work hard; by way of the art of dance. This young man my brother never fails to inspire me with his heartfelt passion to help these kids and others. For the past six years, on Thanksgiving and Christmas morning, Tyrell fed over 600 hundred homeless individuals and families. In which he used his own money. Even though it may have brought hardship to himself, he never considered not doing it. Now he has teamed up with his father Vernal Rolle II to help rebuild our community. He inspired a whole group of us to look outside ourselves to see the needs of others.
Mr. T is having a new production titled Sharing the love featuring local dance studios and out of town guests to mentor and build on dance education for anyone in the community to attend. He is offering opportunities for kids ages 7-11 years, this fall to we will host a performance partnering with local the Sandrell Rivers theater.
Tyrell has his nonprofit 501 3c status, looking for sponsors and private donors to help more at-risk kids. Mr. T has sacrificed his own personal finances to better position himself to help others. I believe that if anyone deserves and has shown kindness and the willingness to make a difference in the lives of others, it is Mr. Tyrell Rolle.
Tyrell’s motto has always been “Use dance as an exit”. See, this was his way out. Which has inspired many kids to get involved; by sharing his story of success. At this moment, he’s working hard on opening up his own dream. That is to open his own dance studio with theater here in Miami for the community of at risk youth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Struggle has been real and it’s challenging every week to keep pushing but I can’t give up now because I have people who need my program.
1. Finding Funding to allow these kids to attend the program.
2. Having to compete with Free programs around the community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional Choreographer, Teacher, Coach, Performer and Artist.
I’m extremely proud of my Movado Future Legend Award given to me by The Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation.
I’m Know for teaching all around the world and also performing with noted Dance companies like Ailey, Philadanco, Dallas Black Dance Theater, The Lion King and So you think you can dance and more.
I’m also very proud to have my dance Studio here in Miami well as Las Vegas.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I moved a lot but it was hard being the only black male in ballet at my school. I had to deal with a lot of name calling and bullying.
