Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Gensler.
Hi Gail, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a pro-aging fitness enthusiast with the goal of changing the narrative about aging through fitness and embracing a healthy lifestyle. I started this endeavor in March of 2020 after seeing so many advertisements depicting midlife women as either diseased and in need of medication or as a silver-haired grandmother leading a very serene lifestyle. This is the antithesis of who I am at this time in my life. I am told all the time by younger people how inspiring I am and realized that I can use my lifestyle as a way to motivate and inspire all ages and specifically brands to change the lens that they look at aging through. Brands need to wake up and realize the buying power that midlife women have and use us (me) in marketing to engender loyalty in those of us who are living vibrant, active lives and want to purchase the clothes and accessories that go with that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been very fortunate to have a great team supporting me, but I will say that paving the way to break the barriers of institutional ageism and changing an archaic way of looking at aging is not easy. We have been programmed to accept this inevitable fate in the same way that our mothers and grandmothers have aged and accepted this. This takes a tremendous amount of discipline, risk taking and patience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do have a regular full-time career, so this is a side endeavor that I am working towards becoming my new full-time career. Although there are many wonderful people in the midlife space, I am unique in my discipline, sales competencies, physical determination and ability to make things happen. My supremely optimistic and friendly personality enables me to have others join me on my quest while I work diligently to ensure their success along the way. I’ve been told so many times that although there are others with my love of fitness, I am the only one still in beast mode using fitness as the platform to convey my message without being a trainer or selling a specific product.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe that a positive mindset always open to the possibilities that life has brings those opportunities that we are looking for and working for to us. Being open to new challenges and willing to put in the work to make goals come to fruition is a huge part of this. As the saying goes, “luck is where preparation meets success”
Although my initial dream of owning a boxing gym was not to be long-lasting due to the recession of 2008, this did prepare me for the role I have now.
