Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Kriss Kofi .
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, my culinary journey started off with cooking my first dish- “bully beef & rice” which is basically corned beef cooked Jamaican style. I was around ten years old when I started cooking. Then when I was 12, I started working at my father’s popular Jamaican restaurant in carol city at the time. In 2010, I joined the military as a food service specialist, in which I was so blessed to travel all over the world and cook. Afghanistan three times; Germany for two years; Uzbekistan 3 1/2 months; Tajikistan four months. After my honorable discharge from the military, I further my culinary education and experience by moving to New York and attending two culinary schools: Natural Gourmet Institute and the International Culinary Center. From there, I moved back to Miami in 2017 where I started cooking for celebrities until I got to a popularity to where it was time to bring forth my business to the public. Now I operate a vegan food truck called “Dub n Grub” in North Miami.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it’s been a rocky road but I never gave up… so far, I can’t complain because the journey has really been a blessing… came a long way but still have far to go.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dub n Grub LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dub n Grub is a plant-based food trailer offering popular veganized street food.
Dub n Grub specializes in giving people a veggie meat-free vegan experience. We are a veg forward food establishment that cooks vegetables in all different ways. We are known for cooking mushrooms in a versatile tasty way.
We are different from the rest because I’m constantly giving our clients a new tastebud experience, with weekly specials. We are just different because we don’t use veggie meat substitutes.
I’m proud of the Dub n Grub brand because we are providing our clients with a unique vegan experience amongst the local community. Usually, you would have to go on south beach or Wynwood for something exotic… we are here now to bridge that gap.
Our brand mainly operates from Friday to Sunday after 5:30pm. We also offer our VVIP food package which is literally a sampler of everything. Then we have the best RASTA PASTA in town. Along with Asian inspired soy-free noodles stir fried dishes.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by relentlessly striving for personal goals and sticking to the path trusting the journey!
