Community Highlights: Meet Ameliya Shikulova of Liliya’s Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ameliya Shikulova.

Hi Ameliya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The story of Liliya’s Flowers as a business is relatively short; we started our journey only 6 months ago. However, my introduction to floristry dates back to 2020.

The pandemic became a challenge for all of us, and, like many others, I started trying things – from blogging to cooking, recording workout sessions, and yes, arranging flowers. At that time, it was only a kind of fun hobby for me. Of course, I watched videos to get an idea of what is trendy and stylish in the floral industry. And when my stepfather’s birthday rolled around, I designed a bouquet for him and posted a picture of it on Instagram. I also tagged the shop where I had bought the flowers for this bouquet, and after a while, they reposted it! So basically, this was the flower arrangement that became my golden ticket to floristry.

When the quarantine was over, I saw that the shop was looking for florists to join their team. I knew it was a long shot but decided to give it a try, mainly because it wasn’t a long time since the repost.

As soon as I got the job, I jumped into the floral world. I arranged 7-8 bouquets a day, my clients were always delighted with the results – and it’s all without particular experience, can you imagine that? In a few months, I noticed that people were coming specifically to me. Finally, at the beginning of this year, I began to build my own portfolio. I had no idea how to choose the right name for my future company and what should be done when it comes to social media, so I started with Pinterest boards.

With minimal expenses for advertisement, I sold my first flower arrangements and started working on my own. I got connected to my purpose and true path, and I go towards my new goals, hopes and success.

As for the company, I decided to name it after my mother. Lengthy explanations are unnecessary here; my mother is the best and the brightest person in my life, and I want everyone who is buying a flower arrangement by Liliya’s Flowers to feel warmth and affection.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest with you, it’s hard to build a business. When the company papers were on hand, and all social media accounts were created, I caught myself thinking – what’s next? How to find clients? How to let people know that floristry isn’t just a hobby from now on, but a business? I began to take active participation in various events in order to raise awareness of the brand and build loyalty. I also started collaborating with women’s clubs as a sponsor and taking steps to promote Liliya’s Flowers. Marketing efforts are the key to business success nowadays and having that in mind, I work tirelessly.

I assume that the biggest challenge is to find your niche, reveal your individuality. There are many floral studios in Miami, but our goal is to provide top-notch service and create exclusive and unique flower arrangements designed with love and care.
