Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began Aurora Skyn in May 2020, snack dab in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately it was right after being furloughed by my job. I figured this would be the best time to start a business. This was my opportunity to pursue my passion and love for skincare. I wanted to create a healthy alternative for skincare minus the harsh chemicals and toxins that we are subject to in commercially made products.
The ultimate goal when creating this brand was to create products that not only were naturally made but provided real results as well from giving comfort to different skin ailments like dry skin or flaky skin for example. Providing products made for Women, Men, and Pets! Aurora Skyn is available for national shipping online with a local pickup option for clients in the South Florida area. The best part is all items are handmade, individually crafted with love and locally made. Providing its customers with quality products such as Body Scrubs, Chapsticks, Beard Oils, Lip scrubs, Body Oils, Body Melts and more!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s been a few ups and down. It can be frustrating at times because as a solopreneur it’s all being done alone. You really have to be organized, and I struggled with that in the beginning. So remembering to eat, sleep is often forgotten when you’re so focused on achieving certain goals. So now I’ve learned to get sleep when needed and carry a few snacks on me. But, nonetheless, I’m blessed to be doing what I am and having so many people love my brand, and that’s literally just the cherry on top.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
During the day, I’m an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. After my 9-5, you can find me focusing on my brand, Aurora Skyn. Most people know me for my fashion sense, though. Prior to skincare, I was a Wardrobe stylist, creative directing with lots of local photographers, modeling agencies, and makeup artists alike.
Occasionally, you’ll find me wardrobe styling previous clients from back when. Most will also remember me as co-creator of the current swimwear line, Philogene Fashion in South Florida. Seasonally we release new pieces. I can say that I’m most proud of my diverse creative abilities. I literally find art and inspiration everywhere. What sets me apart is my individuality. There’s tons of brands doing what I do. But the difference is I’m doing it. I’m my own personal fingerprint and that’s what makes it dope.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Oh, for sure! The best book truly is by my Mother. I go to her for everything under the Sun! There’s no answer she has yet to provide. She’s my safe haven and the greatest gift a daughter could ask for! God was showing off with her, haha. Aside from her, I also have friends in the business field that have helped me navigate too!
