Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Dawson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After moving from Miami to Atlanta for college, I started working as a freelance music and gossip blogger due to my love for music. After about two years, I moved back home to Miami and started my own music and gossip blog. I’ve always been inspired my traveling as well, as it helped me discover where I wanted to go in life, which is why after about eight years, I started a travel blog to showcase different parts of the world. I love traveling to different places to experience the food and culture, which is something Miami is filled with as well. Also due to traveling and meeting different people, this inspired me to start a nonprofit organization to assist those living in inner cities of Miami and Jamaica. My father migrated from Jamaica in the 80s to Miami and in 2018 was my first time visiting the country. After visiting, I knew there was something I had to do to help those in need.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; there have been constant struggles. The hardest struggle is dealing with the many different personalities that I’ve come across. Some people were willing to assist in any way that they could and some were there to make my journey harder than it was. There have been many hoops and hurdles that I’ve had to go through, but I always find a way out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a lifestyle and travel influencer. I travel for a living and I share different areas of my life with my followers. I also have a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization where I assist those living in the inner cities of Miami and Jamaica. I also do marketing, where I work with different brands and come up with concepts/ideas for them to promote a product. My greatest accomplishment is being the first in my family to graduate from college. I have a bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising and applied communications.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Although I live in a big city, at heart, I’m a country girl. Growing up, I used to love visiting my great grandfathers’ farm in Georgia. We would feed hogs, chickens and play in his garden. I enjoyed doing that as a child until he passed away. I haven’t had that experience since.
