Conversations with Holly Meyer Lucas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Meyer. Holly and her team share their story with us below:

Holly Meyer Lucas is a top-producing luxury real estate specialist and nationally recognized industry leader in the Sports and Entertainment real estate space. Based in the Jupiter and Palm Beach area of South Florida, Holly runs a team of 20+ real estate agents and support staff, who are widely recognized as one of the highest producing and highest rated real estate teams in the country. Having sold over half a billion dollars in real estate since 2015, and having represented over 500 real estate transactions, of which over 100 have involved professional athletes in the Jupiter, Palm Beach and Treasure Coast areas, Holly’s experience and production speak for themself, while her reputation representing elite professional athletes, coaches, and their families from the MLB, NFL, NBA, and PGA precedes her.

No stranger to the national spotlight, Holly is often called upon to speak at real estate and sports & entertainment industry events, educating on the topics of starting a real estate company, marketing luxury homes for sale, and working with professional athletes, entertainers, and HNWI. As a founding member of the elite Compass Sports & Entertainment Division and as a member of numerous other national networks, societies, and organizations, Holly’s dynamic reach and deep resources prove to be valuable to her elite home buyers and luxury home sellers year after year. As the wife of a former professional baseball player and current Major League Baseball coach (Ed Lucas), Holly has an intimate understanding of the high stakes and quick turnarounds needed for professional athletes in the Jupiter and Palm Beach area and is often featured on local and national news media outlets discussing best practices when working with athletes and entertainers and various real estate related news stories.

The inspiration for Holly to start her real estate business came from her personal experience of moving dozens of times for her husband’s career playing professional baseball. Holly perfected her skills for finding homes for herself and fellow baseball wives and utilizes her ability to find the perfect needle-in-a-haystack home for her clients to this day. As a tech-savvy marketer, Holly ensures that her clients’ homes have a strategic online presence through targeted social media and website placement and the consistent monitoring of web traffic and analytics. While Holly’s personal focus is on the luxury market in the Jupiter, Palm Beach, and Treasure Coast areas, she and her team will assist clientele ranging from first-time homebuyers to those searching for the ultimate waterfront luxury estate. Holly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in German Literature and Business from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Originally from Munich, Germany, Holly has lived in many places before settling with her husband and two boys in Jupiter. She is the founder of a non-profit called Cupboard Clean Out for Kids, which has donated thousands of unopened, unused, non-perishable food items back to the Jupiter community over the years. In addition to running a successful business and her community leadership, Holly also maintains an active lifestyle through her participation in an adult soccer league, running an occasional marathon and skiing. She is fluent in English and German.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a company and having it grow to the level that mine has been challenging for a number of reasons but the biggest challenge has been recognizing that I am the worst “hirer” on the planet. I have made some big mistakes by putting the wrong people into the wrong roles within my team, primarily because my heart always wants to help everyone, so when I first started, I would create positions for people who simply were not qualified for the jobs I was trying to create for them. I ended up with a team full of people who were half qualified for roles within our organization that were really only half-baked roles to begin with. I am a big softie so I allowed so much BS early on in my career from people who worked for me because I thought a “good leader” was someone who was easy going and who created opportunities for people – but in reality, a good leader creates opportunities that benefit the group collectively, and stands by policies and procedures for the greater good of the company and group.

Being a baseball wife has its challenges, too. I would never compare myself to a single mother, but my husband is gone half the year during the baseball season (he works for the San Francisco Giants), so I am a “solo mother.” We have three boys – 7 years old, five years old, 1-year-old. Giving them the attention they deserve from a mom while running my business definitely comes with challenges, especially when you run a real estate business.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in Germany (my dad is German and my mom is American), and I have lived all over the United States through my husband’s baseball career and my own professional career before real estate. What made me a good realtor early on was my ability to help people navigate the home buying and selling process because I have lived it so many times personally. My baseball and athlete clients have a particular affinity for that with me and my team because I personally live the same life as they do. The sports and entertainment world is a very small bubble.
