Today we’d like to introduce you to Anais Pozo.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
From a young age, I have always loved fashion. My mother manufactured linen clothing for local boutiques in Miami and I remember being in Middle school begging her to open a boutique of her own so that I could run it when I was older. Fast-forward to College, I was 19 years old attending Florida International University College of Business when I was inspired by a friend who also wanted to start a fashion line. This was the beginning of Nisea and I didn’t even know it. Living in Miami, it was always a dream of mine to own my own swim line. I began designing a few styles and getting feedback from my family receiving full support. My mom accompanied me to a few tradeshows to introduce me to the industry. While attending one of the tradeshows I was able to meet a few brands that gave me a new perspective for Nisea, I would hold off on my own designs for now and create a website where people could shop all their favorite resort styles- clothing, bikinis and jewelry, all in one place. My goal for Nisea was to address one main issue with living in Miami. I always struggled shopping in the winters, as Miami basically has one season all year long… HOT. Nisea would fix this problem, providing resort styles year-round.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been as easy as I thought. Being 19 and owning my own business, there were a lot of things to learn. Nisea was born in October 2019, and only 6 months later we were in a global pandemic. When you open a website, you assume people are going to visit your site… That was not the case. My main source of marketing and brand awareness was by attending local pop-ups, especially those at local high schools. It was very challenging in March 2020 when all the planned events were cancelled. The other challenge was that along with pop-ups, all trade-show events were also cancelled. This made it difficult to discover new brands. As the way the world worked shifted, I knew I had to shift as well. I started researching and sourcing products remotely as well as focusing on social media and Facebook advertising. As many small businesses know, social media is very difficult with constant algorithm changes. At the time I looked at this as a negative impact, but now looking back, I know it was for the best. This allowed me to branch out with sales all across the United States. I am very proud of the growth of Nisea in the short time it has been open but there is still a lot of room for growth and many challenges awaiting ahead.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nisea is a women’s online boutique based out of Miami, FL. It was founded on the idea of providing affordable fashion for those with a feminine and flirty trendy resort style. Miami is full of boutiques, and I always fell in love with certain styles. I wanted to bring these styles to girls for a more affordable price. When choosing the styles to be featured on http://shopnisea.com, I always keep in mind the price point while making sure what we choose is great quality. I truly believe that you don’t have to break the bank for a cute outfit. I am always looking to provide my customers with a good deal. Our signature looks are our lacey ruffle dresses and our adorable matching sets. We are big on miniskirts that pair perfectly over a bikini, with our tarnish resistant jewelry. I am so glad that Nisea has allowed me to share my sense of style with others. I have created relationships with girls I would have never connected with otherwise. I am proud to support other female owned businesses by using them as models, photographers and even most of the brands sold on our site. Although Nisea is still small, I hope to continue expanding and creating a sense of community of women and small businesses that build each other up and support entrepreneurship.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
When owning a business, I feel the most important thing for success is consistency. When you are working towards your goals and dreams, there is no time to be lazy. I truly believe if you give your all and work hard you can accomplish anything. Nothing rewarding in life comes easy. I started Nisea with a minimal investment and dedication to make it succeed. From the start I knew I had to market my brand and be consistent. Whether it was the style featured, the social media aspect or the financial budgeting, I always made it a point to be present. If there’s one thing you could take from this is that no matter your age, what your background is, if you want something and you are willing to sacrifice your time for it, you can make it succeed.
