Today we’d like to introduce you to Kolor the Rapper.
Hi Kolor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, it was no secret I was meant to perform. If it wasn’t the family of talent in the music field it was the constant influences surrounding me and the very city I live in. I can’t attest to having the best upbringing but, through that is where I learned to hone my sound and creativity, that is actually where my hit song blue on my debut album KOLORED was birthed where I later was invited to perform my arrangement of BLUE with one of Miami’s esteemed choirs the “Miami Sound Choir”. That night was a dream come true and it was clear to me that the universe had given me a peek of what I would be doing for the rest of my life…
ENTERTAIN, Being a Multi hyphenated artist is that of its own a journey and mine started at a church band in Richmond heights at an early 8years of age where I also lead in my choir. What a time that was looking back but, pressing forward It’s only right that I keep the dedication alive. My entire vision as it regards my discography is to provoke thought and change, many of my supporters note that my writing tone has a sharp wit and various tones of sarcasm. What can I say when it’s time to speak up and out I never shy away from bringing you knowledge, truth and love. So that means being bold in every which way especially to those who have played a big role in helping establish my career. First and foremost, Jesus Carbonell of P.O.P productions and following that title heavily “Clientele Music Media and the respected and credited powerhouse engineer Eddy Bhetooven. Keeping it real where would anyone be without those that love and support you, so a special thanks is also in order to all my close friends and peers. I AM Kolor painting the world we live in one rhyme at a time and ‘No this is not the last you see of me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, I’ve had obstacles, from being denied opportunities to discrimination in my community. I fund everything that I do from the hair and outfits to studio time and music videos. it’s not easy. I am a P.O.C and if that wasn’t a loaded statement let me follow that with saying I am also a Queer artist. I of course walk proudly within both communities yet, if you read that and shared the same troubling grief I feel associated with the political climate alone then you can only but fabricate what it is like to live like me not to mention what feels like upright opposition in the music industry well, that and the cost it takes to push myself as an independent artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I can start by saying that I write and produce my own music. Every sonic pattern, melody, and lyrics composed were created and arranged by yours truly. I pride myself on my profound lyricism. Give me a genre and I could write you a song, with versatility, catchy hooks and harmonies to die for. I’ve played several roles in vocal direction for various artists in Miami, not to mention that my choreography has been displayed in local classes and Performances. What sets me apart is my captivating energy. I bring an effortless fire to the stage that cannot be matched. I am known for Getting the party started and being the physical manifestation of joy. My happiness is infectious and it shows because I’m back by popular demand. It melts my heart to know that my city wants me to be in their favorite places
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I am the competing force that needs to introduce. The industry is constantly evolving but I can only hope to play I big part of that change.
