Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mock.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My background starts with my family and how I was brought up. My parents ingrained into my sister and me to learn the value of a dollar at a very young age and to never rely on anyone but yourself. I get my work ethic from my father who was a business owner and retired at the age of 55 years old. He is originally from Berlin, Germany and the joke in the family is “you girls work hard and have the drive because you are German”. I still laugh thinking about his comments growing up. My mother, who is my rock and matriarch of the family, has the biggest heart and best listening ears. We talk every morning before we start the day. Not sure if I would know what to do if we did not have those conversations about the previous day to one another. I get me emotional side from my mother and the business mind from my father. Its a great combination!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road for me. I have worked for some interesting bosses throughout my career path. Looking back, I would never treat my employees or team with some of the comments or actions that I have received. I know what it feels like to be on the other side if someone makes a mistake and it is O-K. There is always a solution to the problem. Some of my experiences with past managers has taught me to do the complete opposite of what they would do in front of staff. Be professional and have human decency.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a loan officer at Group One Mortgage with the Dynamic Lending team and I help people with their financial needs in purchasing of their new home or refinancing current. When I get a new lead, I have an in-depth conversation of how much money they would like to spend and I take the time to structure the loan that best suits the client. My role is to review prospective clients’ financial backgrounds to determine whether they will be able to borrow money. Getting a loan can be very stressful for some and I work very hard to alleviate the overwhelming feeling by making myself available and answering questions throughout the entire loan process.
I am most proud of my team at Group One Mortgage. When Covid-19 started, the stock market went haywire and we were all worked crazy hours to meet expectations and push the loans through in a timely matter. We were working like machines and supported the chaos that was happening. The interest rates were changing so quickly that it was hard to give a quote.
What sets me apart from others is going to sound cliché, but I truly care about each and every client. I treat everyone the same, whether it is a $200k loan or $1 million loans. Someone once said to me, “Ashley you care too much and really need to let it go”. My response will always be the same and that is ” I will always care because it is a huge financial responsibility getting a loan and I would want someone to treat me with the utmost respect and care for my needs. I will ALWAYS care!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important characteristic of my success is my work ethic. I started working at the age of 14 years old because I wanted to earn my own money and save for a car. My manager at the time hired me on the spot because she thought I was 16 years old. My very first job taught me to show up on time, dress professionally, and always work as a team. That has always stuck with me throughout the years.
