Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Borov.
Hi Joanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Poland. Since I can remember I have loved fashion and that’s why I decided to move to London and study at the University of the Arts London. I started working as a model while studying. After winning two beauty pageants, I received a lot of interesting offers. I performed at Paris Fashion Week, worked in Korea and I judged an international beauty pageant in Argentina.
After graduating, I came to Miami for well-deserved holidays. I really loved it! I was thinking of how nice it would be to live in a beautiful and warm place like Florida and I decided to move to the USA. At that time, I signed with an agency from Los Angeles and moved to California. However, I couldn’t stay long away from Florida and I would visit on a regular basis before making a decision to share my time between Los Angeles and Miami.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I have always set the bar high for myself, but I just recently realized how many obstacles I overcame. No one sees that and people often say, “wow, she is lucky” or that I’m living a perfect life, I am lucky and I’m blessed. I thank God every day for amazing opportunities and people in my life but also I have worked very hard to get where I am now and I went through a lot. I had a final of a beauty pageant a few days after finding out about the tragic death of my friend. I was totally devastated but I did my best and I won the title. When I opened my first company, I was still studying and working at a large fashion house, so I was working on my own designs at night. I’m Pisces and I’m very sensitive, so sometimes it was extremely hard for me to get up after a setback and motivate myself but I did it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a model, influencer, and designer. I worked with many prominent designers and was featured in leading magazines. I designed for a few different brands before but I recently started working on creating my own label in luxury womenswear. I own a brand that makes clothes for children and organic toys but it operates mostly in Europe. I am also working on a publication about a healthy lifestyle. This is something I’m very passionate about and I’d like to share some tips with other people.
How do you think about happiness?
Dogs make me happy! Last year I adopted a small dog and it’s hard to explain how much happiness Chi-Chi Boo brings to my life! I also love the ocean. I believe that ocean has got this amazing power and is able to heal our body and soul. If I’m sad or have a problem I go and walk by the ocean and it really helps me.
