Check Out Aaliyah Nicole’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Nicole.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always loved music… it was something I always knew I wanted to do. I was born and raised in North Miami, Fl and I’m of Haitian, Jamaican and Panamanian descent. I was raised by my father and his parents, my grandparents, due to my mother’s on and off again substance abuse; she was absent for most of me and my older sister, Khadijah’s, childhood and young adult life. With both of my parents being musically inclined, it was a no-brainer that they would bear children with the same gifts. Nevertheless, to keep my sister and I out of trouble growing up, Dragonlady, also known as my overprotective Haitian grandmother, had us become heavily involved at our local church, St. James. We joined the choir and the youth group and during that period was when I discovered my voice and realized I could really do something other than dance.

Since then, I became obsessed with fulfilling this lifelong dream of being an entertainer, one that creates music that transcends time and is visually and sonically appealing in every way. I call myself an art angel that makes angel art. I feel as if my music provides a sense of healing and comfort and fills a void that’s missing from female R&B artists today. Music has a way of touching people and bringing them together in a way no other event can. Music is a universal language and no matter what you’re releasing from your heart, there will always be someone out there who will listen and thank you for dropping that gem of a track. I want to make my mark in this world and I want to be respected for my many talents; however, I am in no rush. Quality, positivity, love and light is my goal and represents everything I stand for. I hope to inspire old and young minds alike who feel they aren’t good enough for this world like I once did. I want to be able to sing some hope and courage into their hearts in the hopes that they’ll internally realize the power they possess. I want to be able to mentally set people free with the sound waves I create. Hopefully, in the next coming years, I can dig deep, remove all self-doubt and accomplish every last goal I’ve set to turn my dreams into reality. And, while I’m doing this, I can inspire someone to get up and get serious about whatever passion makes a living in this matrix a little more worthwhile.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all especially being a young black female in the industry. It’s hard to find people to trust and who simultaneously understand the vision you have of yourself as an artist. I’ve had my own “me too” moments that I’d rather not speak upon, along with multiple bad managerial situations that went awry and learning the hard way that relationships and chasing a musical career in the beginning stages do not mix. In addition to that, Miami is a very tough place to rise from musically, especially as a female, so I made it my mission to break into a new market and give people a different sound that feels nostalgic but modern at the same time. With the help of my complex background, I can appeal to a larger demographic than most which will aid me in bringing together the female and male creatives of my community. Miami isn’t known for positive networking experiences in the entertainment industry, so my ultimate goal is to change that. Nevertheless, I’ve managed to persevere through every storm that has come my way and I intend to continue to work crazily until my dreams come to fruition.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer, songwriter, actress, and CEO (I sell LED light up lip gloss and more). I released my first EP, “Luxor: Alpha,” last year and I’m releasing two more this year; a sequel to my first project, “Luxor: Omega,” and a total new seven-track bucket of sound waves titled “Tokyo Blossom.” I’m currently working with some dope producers working on my debut album, so I’m excited for what the future has in store.

Moreover, I believe what sets me apart from others is the sound I was able to create for myself over the years. I am an eclectic mix of all my influences and inspirations, from Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Billie Eillish, the late Aaliyah (may she rest in peace) and of course the Queen Bee, Beyonce. I grew up listening to my father’s extensive playlist of hip hop classics blaring from his speaking all while schooling us on the history of the true origin of hip hop and what it truly means to be a Master of Ceremony, famously known as an MC. Nevertheless, my stepmother was where I discovered the smooth R&B sounds from Anita Baker, SWV, Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston and many more. Of course, if one were to throw my haitian, jamaican and spanish background into the mix one is bound to get something amazing out of the mix. I managed to bring an old school vibe in a new school way to the music I create. It’s R&B soul with a refreshing twist. In addition to that, I write and create the treatments for my visuals myself, and creative direct all of my music videos. I can’t wait for the day I’m able to bring my visions to the stage; I truly strive to be an all around entertainer and I can only be sure that the support from my current and future fans, my Angels, won’t ever be taken for granted.
