Today we’d like to introduce you to Gustavo Deseda.

Hi Gustavo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Based on the idea of bringing upscale essentials to a growing community of conscious young people that care about what they are wearing, we came up with DSPLACE. As Venezuelans living abroad, the foundations of the multicultural clothing brand rely on bringing the best quality streetwear without compromising formality for any occasion. Founded in 2016, the company strives to raise the bar in the ready-to-wear industry by dedicating time to every detail with the single mission of bridging the gap between standard garments and high-end essentials.

Our main goal is to create a better and more sustainable world one piece at a time. This is what we think is the future of luxury. Most of our products come with a tag of Italian microfiber material called ALCANTARA®, which represents our forward-thinking culture that believes in creating durable luxury items without harming the environment.

DSPLACE’s mission is to create unpretentious, high-quality fashion for daily life. We believe in simplicity and detailed-oriented production as means to create special garments that are unique in their construction. From the raw materials we use to the practical yet innovative design to the careful crafting of each piece, DSPLACE offers a tasteful wardrobe for urban living and the stylish minimalist.

The word Displace (which we shortened to DSPLACE later on) refers to taking over the place, position, or role of (someone or something). DSPLACE strives to fulfill a need by offering a range of products with the same quality of high-end brands but making it affordable to a broader market. The logo reflects the equilibrium we want to maintain in terms of quality standards but also reasonable pricing.

Created by the people & for the people, DSPLACE raises a voice by challenging the industry through high-quality luxury products while remaining true to its forward-thinking identity and young DNA. Raising awareness against the fur trade is our vision of luxury without sacrificing animal lives to maintain a healthier and better environment. This is what we see as the future of luxury, bringing both value and purpose to our community.

Our commitment consists in being agents of change, building a better future for our planet and bringing value to our community by sharing experiences of amazing places to visit in the world rather than just selling clothes. We want to educate our customers to understand their importance in becoming part of this mission, which is based on the idea of quality always preceding quantity because we want you to enjoy what truly matters while wearing our durable items. Less stuff, less worries.

What we propose is simple, to refine timeless & classic pieces, manufacture in ethical factories, use sustainable sources, add functionality for versatile purposes, and offer this at reasonable prices. The end goal is to create a culture of clever buying with a concept of less is more. If we don’t need it, we won’t make it.

Most of the colors we choose for our capsules are inspired in the amazing landscapes we find while traveling. However, the current crisis shows how critical it is to start paying more attention to our ecosystem. As an emerging brand DISPLACE feels the responsibility of maintaining the mission of making a positive impact on the planet, and this collaboration is key to bring values together for a greater cause.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, there are struggles in the way, but the best way is to be consistent with our idea of simplifying the men’s wardrobe.

As you know, we’re big fans of DSPLACE Corp. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I’ve always been passionate about branding. How a package, story and context can change the perspective of a brand/product has always been fascinating to me. Right after taking consumer behavior & psychology in College, my gut told me I had to do something in this area. On Junior, I had no clue how to start a business but we managed to build a small venture later on called DSPLACE.

Each capsule reflects what we think is missing in our wardrobe and we will constantly challenge the idea of the highest possible quality at an accessible price point. Throughout the lifetime of the company, we are now facing challenges and would like to invite you to grow with us.

By May 2018, DSPLACE opened its first showroom in 2700 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, Florida. Even though the company is founded by immigrants, our inspiration comes from the lifestyle here in Miami. We try to connect with our community in every possible way because we believe DSPLACE is much more than just a clothing brand. We represent a movement by the people and for the people.
