Today we’d like to introduce you to Tranise McDaniel.
Hi Tranise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2011, I was training as a Paramedic, unfortunately my training was halted after I was hit by a car and shot. Recovery In Physical therapy and managing new levels of stress and fear, I had to pause my education. However, the pause allowed me to have a new perspective on my desires and goals for my life. Realizing that medicine was not my heart’s desire, I decided to follow my creative nature and pursue event and interior design. Designing is truly a job I would do for free. I started doing pro-Bono work for friends and family to build my portfolio and refine my skills. Most notably, I designed my son’s first birthday with 100 guests and my business grew ever since. From there, my love for floral arrangements to choosing color schemes, linen and more blossomed. But the most important part of my business and satisfaction is my client’s reaction and appreciation for the end result.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. The biggest struggle I faced with my design business was learning how to price my clients. I would underprice in fear of losing the client, consequently, I’d pay the difference out of pocket. At some point, I finally stopped paying for material with my own money but I still wasn’t charging enough, the end result of the event would leave me underwhelmed. I became more stern with pricing by asking veteran designers for guidance and doing my research.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is going over to my grandparents’ home on the weekends; My grandpa would give all the kids piggyback rides in the living room. My grandpa passed away about two years ago and the memory of those piggyback rides always bring a smile to my face and heart. As soon as we’d arrive, my siblings, cousins and I would all laugh and anxiously await our turn. The entire house was filled with creole aromas from whatever my grandma was making for dinner and seven of my aunts and uncles were all around the house doing one thing or another. I can almost feel, taste and hear this memory.
