Today we’d like to introduce you to Lazaro Gonzalez.
Hi Lazaro, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all began when I was 16 years old, I used to go to a gym named porky’s which was a very popular body building/ weight training facility, here is where I developed my love and passion for the world of health and fitness, I Build my certifications With ISSA becoming a Personal trainer by age 18. Little did I know that a young boy’s dream of owning his own training Facility would soon come true nine years later. During my Journey as a Trainer in Miami I met a lot of amazing people from trainers to influencers and was lucky enough to be mentored by great leaders. One of them is my best friend that’s a Captain for Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and another one that’s the Owner of three Orange Theory Fitness in Miami. At age 21, the fitness career taught me a lot about myself, I am a hand on individual and I hate sitting behind a desk. This led to my career as a Firefighter Paramedic for Miami Dade County and the owner of what soon will be the best Functional performance strength training facility in Miami. I Found Legendary Fitness Miami in June of 2019 it was nothing compared to what it is today and were it is headed to. I have always been a man of Vision and after analyzing numbers and visualizing the brand I saw an amazing opportunity to build a home not just for Myself but for the community I serve. You see the Training Facilities that succeed in this industry are the ones that put passion and vision over wealth, The Ones that are owned by individuals like myself that genuinely believe in the amazing things one can achieve with a healthy lifestyle by building the mind and body as one.
I became the sole owner Of Legendary Fitness Miami January 1, 2020. We were in for a ride that no one could have predicted, one of the worst economic challenges for gym owners and business owners all together. We lost more than half the memberships and our revenue dropped drastically, it was a very scary time for us but I believed in my team and the culture we built was strong. I remember getting on a live Instagram video asking members who can continue to support to please support and that I would do my best to keep the ‘Live Legendary’ Dream alive. We were beat down and it seemed there was no hope for a moment but looking at my family and seeing the love and support that came out of such a negative event motivated me even more. We began to do zoom classes, I leant out equipment to those who were willing to not cancel and some of my staff even worked for free. Hosting online classes to survive we pushed through. I cannot thank my team enough for all the hard work and commitment they all put in but it was another sign that this was not over! We began fighting back and when the reopening began, we started getting our name out there, old members were coming back new members wanted to know what this gym was all about and why everyone kept talking about it and before you knew it, we went from a membership of 70 during the pandemic to currently 250 + and climbing.
Today, we are slowly restructuring the business to cater to all age groups and deliver the best one-hour workout that doesn’t just focus on cardio or body building but a diversified style of training that helps increase lean muscle mass and build endurance. We believe that training without programming is like building a home with no architectural planning, it will crumble and collapse with no foundation or guidance. Today we are in the process of expansion surviving the pandemic opened up my eyes and made me even hungrier to deliver the final product of Legendary Fitness Miami, and come June 2021 we will relocate in to a bigger and fully equipped training facility That will deliver sustainability, affordability and Programming for all the individuals looking to bring out their inner Legend. Legendary Fitness is bigger than just a gym this is a family, a lifestyle and a home to many. Let’s continue to LIVE LEGENDARY.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definite ups and down, from bad partnerships to re-structuring our member base and core values, To rebuilding our members trust and helping bring our vision to life. Our biggest obstacle was the pandemic but we pushed through it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
When it comes to luck, I can safely say I haven’t had much of it. It’s been Hard work and building a team that believes in the brand and vision as much as I do that has put us on the map. I’m already use to always being uncomfortable and tackling obstacles and challenges head on. I always like to motivate my team with this quote “One Lion can do a lot of damage, But a pack of Lions are unstoppable”.
