Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Forbes-Moorehead.
Hi Alexis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Miami but spent some time in Raleigh, North Carolina, after middle school. I returned to Miami during my sophomore year of high school, where I attended Miami Carol City High School. I am a proud Broward College Seahawk and FIU Panther alumna. My life was rocky as I experienced various misfortunes such as abuse, homelessness, and poverty. However, I am grateful for it because it serves as the batteries in my back to continue to make a change. I am a firm believer that we are on this earth for a purpose, and I believe that I am here to serve my community.
I’ve been a volunteer with Broward County Public Schools since 2015, where I would assist faculty and staff at events, field trips, and even in the classroom. I specifically worked with children with special needs because they own the largest piece of my heart. Outside of that, I fed the homeless and made myself available to anyone in need, but in 2018 I decided that I wanted to do it on a larger scale. So, I opened a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Project Release of Florida, Inc. My mission was to create lasting solutions to hunger and empower everyone in our community. I offered various programs that included providing meals, resume assistance, mental health counseling, and career counseling to anyone in need, specifically the homeless population. Let’s Release was my peer counseling program, which was available to the public weekly at North Miami Beach and Aventura Library. Also, I facilitated an initiative to combat recidivism by providing ex-offenders with employability training, educational resources, FAFSA help, and mental health counseling. My most memorable and favorite moments with Project Release was when my volunteers and I did sensory-friendly arts and crafts projects on holidays and provide Christmas gifts to autistic students. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to put a smile on their faces. Unfortunately, I dissolved the organization as I was working full-time and going to school full-time all while enduring a high-risk pregnancy. However, I am proud to announce that I will be launching another 501(c)(3) non-profit organization on January 30, 2021.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, I don’t think anything in life comes easy. However, I do believe we can make the most of any situation by remaining positive and manifesting the life that we want for ourselves. I was running a non-profit organization while working full-time, going to school full-time, and parenting. One of my biggest challenges was attempting to juggle multiple hats while avoiding the risk of stretch myself thin. With time, I learned how imperative time management is and once I came up with a formula, things were smooth sailing from there. Now, I am a happily married mother of three beautiful children and am launching three business ventures tactfully and stress-free.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I hear people tell me all the time, “you’re so crazy? How do you do so much with a husband, three kids, and working full-time.” My response is, “it’s easy because I do it all for them. I do it so I can contribute to the positive changes that I want to see in this world.” Currently, I have three businesses that will launch in January of 2021. First, Business Boost Initiative, Inc. is my non-profit organization that will launch on January 30, 2021. I am beyond grateful for my board members as we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that our initiatives will positively impact our community on a high-level. Our mission is to promote economic growth and create opportunities by providing resources to aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners of disadvantaged groups.
We will offer mentorship, education, and financial assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. We have a youth program for high school students that consists of a robust business curriculum that will prepare them for success during their entrepreneurial journey. My second venture is F & M Professional Consulting, LLC. It is a consulting firm that specializes in human resources management and small business development. We also offer professional resume writing services and interview training for individuals seeking to land their dream role. Our HR services include salary benchmarking, market research, employee relations consulting, recruitment, background investigations, HR department development, job description development, employee helpline, data analysis of KPIs, and other HR-related data. I’ve been working in the HR field, for some time now, and I am also certified through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). I also have a team of experienced, knowledgeable HR professionals who are readily accessible to ensure our client’s success.
We also provide basic website design and form filing services to entrepreneurs who want to legitimize their business. Our form filing services are exclusive to Florida residents (with the exception of 1023-EZ) and include articles of incorporation, federal employee identification numbers, and 1023-EZ applications for non-profit organizations. Consulting services will also be available and success packets, which are a collection of templates and pertinent information that is essential to every business owner. F & M Professional Consulting, LLC. will be launching on January 15, 2020. Lastly, Lexi’s Home and Garden is a mixture of a personal blog and various products. On the social media page, I will be promoting healthy living, providing updates on my garden, share health and beauty tips, as wells share my weight loss journey. Starting January 15, 2020, I will sell a variety of organic, handmade skincare products and homemade spices and herbs. All seasonings are made with 100% organic, non-GMO vegetables and herbs with no artificial flavors, additives, or preservatives. Customers will have the option to either purchase stock items or create their own blends by mixing and matching different flavors. Customization will also be available for all skincare products so my customers can pick and choose what they put on their skin. As hectic as this all may sound, I am elated and looking forward to providing professional, exceptional service to all.
