Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Falcon.
Patricia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Cuba, raised in the Dominican Republic, and relocated to Miami. I graduated from Miami Culinary Institute, later I graduated from Florida International University (FIU) Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Program with her Master’s degree in Hospitality Management. In 2016, while attending Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Culinary Institute (MCI), Patricia earned the opportunity to experience a true life French culinary adventure by being selected to apprentice as the sous chef at Le Calabash ‘Petit Conservatoire de la Cuisine’. In 2016, I was the recipient of the Les Dames d’Escoffier (LDE) local legacy award scholarship by the prestigious Les Dames d’Escoffier of Miami, an organization of women leaders in food, wine, hospitality, and farming.
I had worked in the kitchens of Miami Design District restaurants including Michael’s Genuine, and Miami Beach’s Stubborn Seed restaurant and Quality Assurance apprenticeship for illy caffè North America. I was the face of FIU’S South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2019 and recipient of the Lee Brian Schrager scholarship, founder and executive director, of Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival. I had the opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant at FIU for the Food & Beverage program. Currently, I am working as a Culinary instructor at Somerset Academy South Homestead and running my own catering business “A’Guede Sweet & Salty.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a long road in which I have encountered obstacles being a female in the kitchen, having English as my second language and personal problems such as losing my mother, but that did not make me not continue with my focus and my dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about A’Guede Sweet and Salty?
A’Guede Sweet & Salty Is a small catering business providing homemade food service with fresh ingredients and premium quality. As a result of the pandemic, I decide to start my own catering business from home and name the company in memory of my mother after she passed away from cancer.
What matters most to you? Why?
Bring the best service and demonstrate to my clients the satisfaction of creating flavors and show the importance of using seasonal and local produce.
