Community Highlights: Meet Denielle Mizrahi of Yeasty Brews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denielle Mizrahi.

Hi Denielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up with an immigrant father who came to the US without speaking any English. He was able to build many successful businesses with my mother and provide a beautiful lifestyle for my family and I. He always told me of the struggles he faced but was given small opportunities that he seized and grew. My parents always inspired me and gave me the confidence to dream bigger, Daniel and I started dating shortly after graduating college in Ft Myers, during the time I was pursuing my exciting new hospitality management career. Daniel was currently working at a news station as a journalist and video editor but did not have any joy for the job or room to grow. Naturally, I wanted more for him too. I knew he was really into craft beer by the way he spoke and the collection of bottles he had, so I suggested a job in the beer industry. We both agreed that would be a good first step in a new direction. Daniel didn’t hesitate to apply for positions and was lucky enough to land himself a cellaring job at a new brewery in Punta Gorda called Fat Point. He started with absolutely no experience in brewery work but was given a chance to test himself. His knowledge and excitement grew quickly, like setting a match on fire. Daniel started homebrewing, reading books and studying in his free time. Not long after he was hired, the assistant brewer position opened up and was offered to him.

A year had gone by and Daniel was hungry to learn more. The Ft Myers area did not have nearly as much interest in craft beer as larger areas like Tampa or South Florida, so he set off for Ft Lauderdale after accepting a position at LauderAle as the Director of Brewing Operations. It was during this time that he made invaluable connections and was given more freedom to learn and create. After a year’s time, I asked him to move back to Ft Myers since my personal career had grown so much and I would not be leaving anytime soon. Daniel got a position at Ft Myers Brewing Company and we took our relationship to the next level. It was during this time that I really started to see how passionate Daniel was for his newfound love of brewing. He was reading books, listening to podcasts, brewing at home any chance he got and constantly talking about beer! I started getting more involved by helping out at brewery events and brewing with him. The owners and staff at Ft Myers Brewing Company always made us feel welcome and at home, which made me want to get more involved in the industry too.

Another year had gone by and Daniel was still itching to spread his creative wings. Not many people find their passion in life but when they do, they deserve every opportunity to pursue it. We both toyed around with the idea about him opening a brewery but it wasnt until I was on board that things really started to move. We were given the opportunity by our friend Jon Falco at Lincolns Beard to contract brew our Banana Slinger Milkshake Hefeweizen. We were thrilled to have the chance to get one of our beers into the market and see the reaction. It was better than we could have imagined, which propelled us into finding a little place of our own. We quickly found a small warehouse in Lauderhill to build a three barrel brewhouse in for distribution only. The city of Lauderhill started speaking to us about their plans to redevelop the area we were in and build an Arts & Entertainment District. They had been searching for a brewery to kick start their mission and it seemed fate had brought us together. We knew it was time to move to the Ft Lauderdale area to get Yeasty Brews off the ground. We started distributing our beer to bars and restaurants in Miami, Broward and Palm Beach counties while attending as many beer festivals as we could. After several months, we knew we had a good thing going and decided to take the leap and lease a 3,000sqft space in Lauderhill that would be home to our taproom and brewhouse. Although the downtown district was still just a vision, we knew someone would have to ignite the change and it would be us. We were in the middle of construction when COVID-19 started to spread, which forced us to stop distribution and just focus on the taproom. We were finally able to open Dec 2020, after many shutdowns and delays. We could not be happier to have our dream taproom come to life after so much time and hard work. We run a small kitchen and taproom with eight rotating draft lines. We modeled our brewery after our love of Wynwood Miami, where art and culture is prevelant.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was an enormous learning experience for us. We have never owned a business before and had to change directions many times to continue our journey. Our biggest challenge was getting through our construction phases, especially through COVID-19. We had support from our friends, family and peers, which gave us the strength to persevere.

We’ve been impressed with Yeasty Brews, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yeasty Brews was founded on the notion that natural is better. We strive to use as many local, natural ingredients as we can to provide a fresher, higher-quality product that you can feel good about. We love to innovate and create new beers through our rotating tap lines. We are most known for our lactose beers, including Milkshake IPAs and now VEGAN milkshake beers using coconut milk.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yeasty Brews is a place where everyone is welcome. We want to spread good vibes and great beer!
